Posted by , 7 October 2013 at 7:16 am UTC / 8408 views
Unvanquished is a fast-paced, futuristic FPS with RTS elements, pitting technologically advanced humans against hordes of highly adaptable aliens. The player can choose from either team, providing a fresh gameplay experience on both sides of the conflict.

Alpha 20 New Features:

  • Bots

  • Firebombs

  • Crosshair indicator - identify friend, foe and bullet hits

  • SDL2

  • FXAA

  • Add some multi-threading

Starting to look really good, will be watching this project closely.

Does anyone play this a bit, what are your thoughts?

I play it once in a while, but the servers are usually empty when I'm awake so it's lonely haha.

Gameplay wise, it's a pretty big improvement over Tremulous (and I played that a lot when I first started using Ubuntu). The thing that Unvanquished really has going for it would be the bots and the beautiful graphics. I tried Alpha 18 with the bots on my own dedicated server, and it was serious fun. The bots still get stuck a lot though, but I understand path finding is not easy to implement in A.I. I bet this game would be a lot more popular if it had a singleplayer short campaign.

Really glad to see bots being added, as that was the major barrier keeping me from playing Tremulous back in the day. Unvanquished really is beginning to look promising, although they should get on Desura.  It might just be something to add to our LAN party routine.
