Artifact, a new card game based on the Dota 2 universe has been announced by Valve as the latest kick in the balls for everyone waiting on Half-Life 3.

We don't know too much about it, other than it being a card game and given that it's Valve it will likely be free to play to ensure it's success. I'm speculating there, since I haven't heard either way, but I would honestly be surprised if Valve made it pay to play. Valve have a huge user base to tap into, so free to play for them is pretty smart considering even small in-game purchases could end up netting them a lot of money.
There's no details on platforms yet either, so hopefully Valve don't suddenly forget to include a Linux version. I doubt they would, if they do, it really would make me question their plans for SteamOS & Linux.
Brad Muir who worked on titles like Brütal Legend and Massive Chalice announced on Twitter that he's been working on for a while:

I see this come up from time to time here and other forums. I wonder where that impression that SteamOS still is in beta comes from. Probaly because of the almost missing marketing from Valve about SteamOS
SteamOS has a released non beta branch for like two years now. And a beta branch callled brewmaster_beta where updates are pushed to first before later being released to the released branch called brewmaster.

Is it maybe because beta updates are more featured here on gol than when they get released as stable to brewmaster?
I remember years ago a LOT of open source software was like that--I'd be watching like a hawk for the latest OpenOffice or Rhythmbox or whatever in hopes that it would solve what was hassling me about it. Now I mostly just use whatever versions of stuff the distro has packaged because the software's mature enough that the upgrades aren't a big deal.
So I'd have to say that SteamOS, while not "in beta", isn't what you could call mature software. It's still at that "Eagerly waiting for important features and fixes" stage.

First google link when searching for "SteamOS download" points to this (at least for me):

The button there is clearly called SteamOS Beta. And from here it comes the idea that it's still in beta.
Also in the first page with google search results for "SteamOS download" I don't see any link to steamcommunity...
I don't think the forum is the place to download an OS...
Even reading the FAQ ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/648814395741989999/ ) is not that helpfull. It's wrote in an ambiguous way when they talk about 'brewmaster' ("brewmaster" is never called a stable release and "brewmaster_beta" is called a testing release, they basicaly let you understand what you want about "brewmaster" ) .
You have some good points there, I was not aware that the download page still stated beta. Right now there isnt a newer beta so we can not check if its brewmaster or brewmaster_beta, but I think it is the typical Valve thing about working on stuff they are intereted in and that no one thought about updating that download page:-)
Or it is because they do like people to install it on their own systems and give feedback as long as its only a few that do that, they do not want to have millions to install SteamOS instead of Ubuntu Fedora, Arch etc as their main Linux distribution.
I think they see SteamOS more as a reference distribution for Linux gaming and it is what they offer to the steammachine builders like Alienware and Zotac. So maybe its they have a stable release for the prebuild systems, but anyone installing it themself should consider it as beta. Who knows...
