Valve put the Steam Controller and Steam Link on a big sale again

By - | Views: 21,614

Still haven't picked up a Steam Controller or Steam Link? This latest sale might tempt you to do so as they're cheap. Note: These are not affiliate links, just highlighting a good deal.

You can buy them as a bundle, with 55% off for £35.98 which is pretty fantastic.

Separately, you can by the Steam Controller with 30% off for £27.99 and also the Steam Link, with 70% off for £11.99.

I will likely never find a use for the Steam Link in my house right now, since I have a PC hooked up to my TV. The Steam Controller however has uses that never end. Great for the majority of games I've played with it, not all mind you, but most. It also doubles up as the remote for my TV PC using SC Controller and it works so nicely.

Quoting: ImFromMostonI have a steam controller but I would not recommend it to anybody. I have given up on it as the support is lacking, in fact its a joke. I wanted to use the controller on the desktop for web browsing etc but as soon as I bring up the keyboard interface and type the first letter it freezes and its been like this since launch.

This is what irks me about valve. they seems to throw a half finished product out there then move on to the next thing such as supporting ps4 pads... VALVE, AT LEAST GET YOUR OWN F***ING PAD FULLY FUNCTIONAL BEFORE STARTING WORK ON SUPPORTING SOMEONE ELSE'S CONTROLLER. :><:

I've got to disagree on this one. I had one issue right when I got it last year, but that was just a firmware update that I believe impacted all OS. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing.

I wish I would have had a controller like this as a kid! The build quality is amazing, it feels great to play, and it can be infinitely customized.

I don't know what else I would ask for in a controller at this price ($58.99, Amazon, free shipping) or double this price. To me, it's apparent that a lot of work went into the design, form, and function to produce a controller that works with (almost?) every game I've ever thrown at it. /rant :P

Quoting: Darkdisorder78Yea sorry that doesn't work. It doesn't work in Linux outside of left for dead 2.
Then perhaps you're not setting something up correctly for it, or it's a distro-specific issue.

Here's where you adjust the haptic feedback:

Works without issues for me, on Ubuntu 17.04, always has for as long as I've had it.
So you are saying that the Steam Controller vibrates in Ubuntu 17.04 but not in Steam OS which is based on Debain? Valve once again doesn't know how to market to console players.
Well now I might get what you mean a little more. So Vibration based on in game actions, rather than the general Haptic feedback?
Yea wasn't steam OS marketed to console players? Yea I was talking about haptic feedback. That's a big feature to forget to add. Plus it works in left for dead 2 which is so silly.
Well haptic feedback works perfectly fine on all distributions ive tested.

Vibration based on actions is another story. As the user above me said.
Yea I don't understand how? I read that Steam OS doesn't support rumble in the Steam controller. I'm taking about vibration you feel when playing games like Saints Row IV. Now in windows the Steam controller does support vibration in games.

Dude, come on. Multiple people have said (and I'll ++1) that haptic feedback just works. Not trying to be sarcastic here, but sometimes you just have to dig in yourself instead of reading into all the negative bias that unfortunately creeps into many gaming discussions. If I had a TV show on Discovery, I'd say this myth is busted.

I meant to tag someone else.. but I already feel like this reply is a bit too long. Regarding the shipping - see the comment above regarding Amazon. That's where I got mine, and it's still sold by Valve, just a different distribution channel.
Your response literally means nothing and you are wrong. I'm not making up stuff and I wouldn't lie. I think liamdawe already figured out what I am talking about? Have you even used Steam OS? Maybe if you would actually use it then reply your comment would actually help. Thanks!

Only thing I would like is a 2nd joystick (without removing any of the other control elements). Would be hard to put it there without the controller looking cramped but I'm sure they would find some way.

You could remove everything except the last reply from your quotes to save space :)

So for the complaints earlier about rumble/vibration not working under SteamOS for Saint's Row IV. I just tried it and I can't even get the Steam Controller to work at all with Saint's Row IV. I suppose if I changed it to work as a 'keyboard/mouse' configuration it would, but the recommended by Deep Silver configuration does not work.

I know the Steam Controller is working in other games (just played a bit of Sundered with it and died horribly of course).

Yes that exactly my issue. I guess I should report this to the Saints Row IV devs but I can't find a contact email for them. Trust me rumble doesn't work in SRIV. It doesn't work at all in any steam os game besides left for dead 2. I'm sure valve had some custom Api for that game to make it work. Steam OS seems like it never came out of beta.
