It seems there was a bit of a woops with the Beta release of Valve's new Steam Play system Proton, which is now fixed.

This issue on GitHub from the creator of DXVK mentions that it was left in "debug mode rather than release mode" and that could cause a performance drop of up to 50%. This is what a Beta test is for of course, so they can find issues and see where they need to improve for more releases. It should just update when you go to launch a game with Steam Play. If you've been running Steam for a while, you can restart Steam to be sure.

Since I updated to the latest NVIDIA driver today with 396.54, I tested Doom out once again and it does run smoother than before. The newer NVIDIA driver does have a performance fix for both OpenGL and Vulkan, an issue that was introduced in the 390 driver series.

Also, I put up a video where I ramble for a bit and show off some Doom:

I will have a much longer article up in a few days with thoughts on both sides of the coin. It's a complex issue, but it's still rather exciting right now.

I´ve tested a few small/oldish titles at random but no luck this far. Neither "State of Decay", "Underrail", "Outcast 1.1", "I shall Remain", "Prey" or "The Secret of Monkey Island:SE" would start for me under steamplay.

EDIT: Disregard the above, after a reboot I got all of them to start up except "Outcast 1.1" & "Underrail" for some reason. "State of Decay" seemed to have some graphical glitches but otherwise worked fine, "Prey (2006)" semed to work great, same with "I Shall Remain" & "Monkey Island".

What about non-Steamgames? Can I run them with Steam Play too?

Well i suppose techincally if you added the product to steam using the add the product to steam button as long as you had the exe files and not a "backup" version then i cant see why not. Also glad to see this performance boost did wonder why there was such a big difference in reported frame rate on Dishonoured now i know.

RIP SLEEP 2018 :D
Well, it remains to be seen how people will take us writing about what's essentially Wine a lot more often. Will see how it all goes, early days yet.

I have tested S.T.A.L.K.E.R and works fine. I had some audio issues as game decided to put EAX in Audio settings. Switching that off and all nice and dandy. Is there a list of supported games ?

Quoting: X6205Is it possible also backup and restore Windows games in native linux client when they are compatible with new Steam Play? I have some Windows games backed up, for example Doom 2016. Can i restore from this backup to Steam client beta? I really don't want to re-download this game again under linux..
Works fine!

Quoting: jorvalHey,

Ive tested Tharsis and Deus Ex Human Revolution yesterday, both ran flawless. ind DXHR i had some framedrops at the start.
I would be perfect if steamdb would add an steamplay tag, or winehq. a database where we can put together our test's.

found this link in a fresh HexDSL Video ;) There it is our own Database with tested windows games.

This is great! I was wanting to test out Prey 2016. I noticed that one of the testers commented "stutters every now and again." I think this is a game specific problem, as I get stutter every now and again in Windows as well. What would be the best way to relay that message?
