Called the Worldgen and Geology Update, version 1.9 of Vintage Story has hit stable and brings with it a number of new additions to the already in-depth game.

You can see some of the new stuff in a gameplay video from the developer below:

Among the most noteworthy additions are:

  • A new panning mechanic, where players can use an ore pan to discover nuggets and other rare resources by sifting sand and gravel
  • Traders and villages
  • Realistic climate bands
  • Public server listings for the multiplayer-inclined, so you can play with or against people
  • Revamped world-gen features, including biome bands and much more interesting caves
  • An updated UI for easier interaction with the world
  • 16 new rock types and 16 new ores
  • And much, much more!

To say this is a huge update might actually be underselling it a bit, the amount that's changed is utterly ridiculous. Keeping a very close eye on this one, each update sounds fantastic. While it might resemble Minecraft, the way you interact with the world seems very different.

You can find Vintage Story on the official website and read the patch notes in the Vintage Story forums.

With thanks to the original submission from Draconicrose!

I played it quite a lot already when it was 1.7 or 1.8.

Now, 1.9 is me playing again... So far, after 4 hours, i just started to craft some copper tools, and found a nice place to settle.

Caves are indeed really improved in this version, as well as the world in general.

Hmm. I never heard about this game! Is it almost the same as Minecraft, or does it have only some similarities? Looks cool for me! I really like Minecraft, so I'm definitely interested in this one! I have to do some research about it :)
Btw, I'm still amazed, how many games I discovered thanks to GOL :D

EDIT: Ok, I did some research. I'm definitely picking this one! :O It looks like more "mature" Minecraft with some really fun improvements to it's mechanics. And oh my, oh my, I love the music! This game looks like some kind of a hidden gem! Wow, I never thought that I'll be soo much interested in some Minecraft clone :D Thank you for this!
