Warsow, the free online FPS game hits the big 2.0 release

Warsow, a rather stylish and free online shooter hit the big 2.0 release recently, and it seems to be pretty good.

You can see an older trailer for it here if you can't remember it:

What's new?
- Tutorial level
- Majority of Warsow assets are now under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license
- Many graphical effects such as gibs, hit and stun indicators, Lasergun and Electrobolt beams, were revamped. In addition, the renderer has received numerous optimizations, resulting in 30 to 50% performance improvements depending on the hardware and settings.
- And a lot more, see the full changelog here.

I hadn't tried Warsow in years, so I decided to check out the new release and I simply love the style of the game. The gameplay really isn't for me though, as it's insanely fast paced. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

As usual with open-source projects: they are looking for contributors :) 3D art contributions are welcome as well as engine improvements (porting simplified ragdolls from Cube2?).

It's a cool game overall and it has Counterstrike like bomb-diffuse and Team fortress Like Team modes as well.

There is plenty. One of the best sources is Blender Cookie:
https://cgcookie.com/learn-blender/

But you can also find great sources totally for free all over the Internet, no need to pay anything (but Blender Cookie is more convenient).

Maybe this also helps:
http://www.gamefromscratch.com/page/Complete-Blender-Game-Art-Tutorial-From-zero-experience-to-2D-or-3D-game-ready-asset.aspx
http://opengameart.org/forumtopic/making-a-musket-with-animations-finished

Blender is generally the open-source 3D modelling app of choice, but Wings3D is also good and a bit more simple to learn (but it lacks animation features).
