Wine 2.10 released, nothing massive this time around

By - | Views: 16,361
Wine 2.10 has release recently and this release is one of the less exciting releases for Linux gamers. I imagine the Wine-Staging release isn't far behind now too.

Highlights:
  • Initial version of the Android graphics driver.
  • Dictionary support in WebServices.
  • A number of Direct2D fixes.
  • User interface improvements in RegEdit.
  • OLE clipboard cache fixes.
  • Various bug fixes.

It fixes some issues with the EA Origin client, Path of Exile resolution fixes, Sniper Elite V2 colour fixes and more.

See the release notes here. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Path of Exile sounds good. Thought about playing it again just yesterday :)

Hope they optimize gw2 again which is a pain since 2.2 staging.

What does Staging mean, really? I've interpreted it as similar to "experimental" or some such.

Staging is a branch of Wine with experimental patchs, for example:

CSMT (Commandstream multithreading) for better graphic performance
CUDA / PhysX / NVENC Support for NVIDIA graphic cards
DXVA2 GPU video decoding (experimental)
EAX 1 support
Fixes for various upstream regressions
GTK 3 theming support
Loading of .NET CLI images without entry point
Performance improvements for IO-heavy programs and memory allocation functions
S3 texture compression (DXTn) support
Support for allocating more than 32 GB of memory
Support for installing MSU files
Support for Vulkan
Various improvements to d3dx9
Various speed improvements (shared memory, RT priority)
Windows ACL support

2.0 staging is by far the best for GW2, anything past that is a massive performance drop. Best thing to do is use 2.0 for GW2 and newer versions for everything else.

As for PoE, the fix they mention has been fixed many versions ago, I've been playing it at 1920x1080 since 1.9 Wine series. :-)

In this wine version have some fixes case star wars the force unleashed 2, in this game sometimes dont render correctly character eyes and sometimes crash (in last test) dont possible finish 1st chapter without crashes

View video on youtube.com

Another interesting title is prototype, in before wine versions show crashes sometimes and audio problems

Without forget character render problem (running and walking animations)

In this wine version solve stability problem, audio problem and character render problem (CSMT=1* is required)

*Also CSMT=1 still needed for solve graphic bugs, specially flickering related case: duke nuke forever, metal gear rising, bayonetta, vanquish, im alive, senran kagura shinovi versus, resident evil 6 and possible others, without forget give some boost in some games

As other said case legluondunet give this properties

However in my case i said shows this in practical terms

-Run games needs 1D textures case need for speed most wanted 2012

-Run games needs deffered context case shantae and pirates curse or mighty switch force

-Use uplay in online mode

-Use origin win 7 version

And other things

^_^

I see, so it's like specially adapted versions of Wine. I have one for Gallium 3D, which is nice. Thanks!

There was a pretty major breakthrough patch by Józef Kucia, which fixes a lot of issues in The Witcher 3. But it's not in master or staging yet (you'd need to apply it manually for now). See here.
