Another Wine development release is now available! Just today Wine 2.13 has released and features a few noteworthy changes.

Major changes:
  • Unicode data updated to Unicode 10.0.0.
  • Nicer looking default mouse cursors.
  • Persistent connections support in WinHTTP.
  • Message Framing protocol support in WebServices.
  • Improved metafile support in GdiPlus.
  • Debug registers support in x86-64 exception handling.
  • Anti-aliasing improvements in DirectWrite.
  • Various bug fixes.

They fixed 33 mentioned bugs in games like Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, Ion Assault, The Witcher 3 and more. Overall it looks like a pretty decent release.

I'm always fascinated with Wine development, chasing that ever-moving target, but they're doing a fantastic job. I would be surprised if in 2-3 years time if most DX9 games didn't have good to excellent support, at the current rate of Wine development. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

DirectX11 in 3-4 years, DirectX12 when Half-Life will release.
The best is for 64bits wineprefix ... dotnet and vcrun20xx dont work correctly so goodbye for 64bits games which used these components...

DirectX12 is easier, ironically, because Vulkan and DX12 is very similar in lot of things, including using same shader format.

Also DirectX12 is a subset, not replacement. DX11 is still relevant and to be frank, will stay as OpenGL 4.5 will stay go to API on Linux. Low level access will be important for engines, who will support Vulkan/Linux anyway.

I think that wine development is awesome, but I feel that is incomplete. In my opinion they must complete the controllers support before start with Dx11. Why Steam Controller don't have support (you must emulate xbox360 with sc-controller before, and don't work with all games)?

The force Feedback in wheels only works in a few games. I love simracing games, and would play Automobilista, Rfactor2 (and more) and Project Cars with wine perfectly. This games works fine with Wine, and the wheel works, but without FF support. I only know two games that works perfect with FFeedback: Life for Speed and Kart Racing Pro.

Is Alan Wake 100% playable?

Hmmm, I don't remember the cutscenes not working audio wise on either game. I think I had to install a package for wine to play the videos that was it.

For me darksiders works flawlessly on gallium-nine, there is some weird lighting glitch on Alan wake that put me off. Might be just an AMD bug tho.

It worked for me doing "winetricks --force xact_jun2010" , but sometimes it gets uninstalled and you have to run "winetricks --force xact_jun2010" everytime you start the game, it's suboptimal but it works.

Not that weird saw a few months back an interview with gog when they released the gog version of Fallout 3 and NV that they could not support Linux because they did not have permission from Bethesda to sell the game on any platform apart from windows. It would seem if you want the DRM free version you have to get Deep Silver to agree a deal with CD project to put a linux port up. Also anyone remembers dead island when it came out Deep Silver were saying not there problem with bugs they blamed the porters etc etc
