You can grab Arma 3 plus some DLC in a new Humble Bundle

By - | Views: 14,728

This is a good deal for those who want to test out the experimental Linux beta of Arma 3, as Humble Bundle have unleashed the Humble ARMA 2018 Bundle.

For those who don't remember, Bohemia Interactive teamed up with Virtual Programming back in 2015 to port Arma 3 to Linux and it's currently in an experimental form. It doesn't advertise the support for it on Steam, but it does work quite well. You don't need to opt into anything on Steam, you just download it like any other game.

If you pay $1, you will be able to get Arma Tactics. While this tier does include Arma: Cold War Assault as well, it does not include the Linux version, as Virtual Programming put up the Linux version of that one as a separate game on Steam.

Whereas Arma 3 and the DLC is in the top tier where you pay $15 (around £11.27). This is probably the tier most of you will be interested in and it's not a bad deal really considering it's currently $39.99 on Steam directly.

Check out the Humble ARMA 2018 Bundle now if you wish.

I wonder if Bohemia will ever make the Linux 'experimental' port official...

As Liam says, the port works great. It's very heavy on resources, I was getting 30 FPS with a GTX 780, that went up to 60 fps with my new GTX 1080, but it's also a demanding game on Windows. I can't advise you to buy it, but I'm happy with my purchase.

Excuse my ignorance on this, but can you play DayZ on Linux using Arma 3 as the engine?

Also, how good are the single player campaigns and maps (i.e. playing with bots OR as an individual). I'm not really into FPS games where you crawl around all the time sniping - used to call those players "campers" in the good old days. Or, where you have to lead a team / work with a team - more of a deathmatch / lone-wolf player, strafing with shotguns or rocket launchers.

I wish they would just make the Linux build official and keep it up to date with the windows version. Honestly, it runs flawlessly and I think it may be one of VP's highest quality ports.

I've never tried to use mods on ARMA 3 running in Linux. As far as I know is possible, but you'd want to dive in the forums to read all the workarounds and do's and don'ts.

The ARMA series are not traditional FPS or deathmatch arena games, but military sims, where you need to work with your team and carry out missions. From what you say you like, I don't think ARMA 3 is the game for you.

Maybe check out some videos on youtube to see how it plays?

Having said that, the single player campaign is great.

You should be noted that VP won't get any money from this sale. Linux version is not released officially, so HB sells windows keys.

That's not how all porting contracts work. That applies for Feral/Aspyr usually.

Compared to my interest level, even $15 is way overpriced. I'll leave it.
