So Doom and Vulkan get along together, this makes be a (tiny)bit more hopeful that this may get a port in the future. At least if WINE gets Vulkan support (don't know if they do or not yet?) it will make running this easier

I praid for a Linux version ...

I mean wouldn't it be silly not to release a Linux version if they've gone to the effort of adding Vulkan support?

In theory it should be very little extra work needed. I won't be buying it unless they support Linux though. I'm trying my best to buy Linux titles rather than support winblows.

It all depends on the middleware used, and the fact that the publisher is Bethesda...

Current DRM makes it nearly impossible to play on GNU/Linux via WINE. I say do not expect much...
Luke_Nukem Jun 27, 2016
As far as I know, the DRM used isn't cross-platform.

Quite honestly, you know how Linus Torvalds gave Nvidia the middle finger? Yeah, that's what id Software is getting from me right now. Fuck'em.

Wolfenstein rebooted... No Linux support.
Doom rebooted... No Linux support.
Quake rebooting... Can guarantee no Linux support.

Historically, Linux has been supported somewhat by id, but also historically, the head honchos haven't given a fuck about Linux. So yeah, fuck'em.

(apologies for the profanity, but I'm grumpy about it)

Doom was running on OpenGL before the Vulkan update and there was no Linux version, what should the Vulkan update change in that perspective? Right, nothing! And because of their DRM System we won't see a Linux port ever.
One reason why I am still dualbooting, cause games like this are just worth it.

It's funny how Vulkan, the best and last hope for Linux, is turning out to be great for Windows and meh for us. Did I say funny? I meant not funny at all.

Doom has been running on Opengl from the beginning.

The good news is Id Tech 6 supporting Vulkan, when Id Software will release the source code in five years from now developers will get an advanced 3D game engine with native Vulkan API support.
