How make the wiki great? Discussion on how to improve the wiki
Oniondreams Jul 25, 2016
I took a proper look at the wiki yesterday and realized that
it needs quite a bit of love if it is to be the "the Linux
gamers guide to all things for Linux games". I also realized
that it would be nice to have some kind of plan about what
the wiki is for and what it should contain to structure the
work with improving the wiki. Because of this I have written
together a list of information that I think the wiki should
contain. It would be really interesting to hear your
thoughts on this list and to hear if you have any other
suggestions. If you have any other random ideas on how the
wiki could be improved, that would be interesting to hear as
well.

I have ordered the information into four different sections,
where the first section is the most comprehensive. There
might be better alternatives to structuring the information
on the wiki than the one I have provided here, so if you
have any other suggestions regarding this please provide
them as well.

Linux gaming in general

* Information about distributions for gaming.
- The short version: Ubuntu and Mint is recommended for
beginners, and they are probably the most hassle free
alternatives. Arch Linux is a popular alternative but
it's more difficult to use. Check statistics page for
other distrubutions used.

* Information about GPU manufacturers and GPU drivers
- Is it sufficient to give information regarding GPUs or
should there be more in depth information about other
hardware as well? My reasoning is that the GPU is the
part that requires most Linux specific considerations,
and it is therefore prioritized to provide info on.

* Introduction to using WINE and PlayOnLinux

* Information about different stores
- Provide info about which stores registers Linux buys.
- Info about how to install and play games from different stores.

* Information on where to find good games
- For this we have things like the release calendar, the
games sale list and this wiki page. What more
information can be provided? Old GOTY articles?

* Information about what gaming devices (gamepads, steering
wheels, etc) works on Linux.

* Tips on software that can improve the gaming experience on
linux.
- Example software: Discord, Lutris. What more software
could be mentioned?

Gaming On Linux info and links

* Provide links and info on how to contribute articles and
article tips.

* Provide links to Release Calendar, Statistics page,
livestreams, podcast and the games on sale list.

Other linux gaming resources

* Provide links to other Linux gaming resources like
/r/linux_gaming and Phoronix. What more could be
interesting to have here?

Wiki specific information

* Information about the syntax used for editing articles.

* Guidelines for editing articles.

* Some form ot TODO list for the wiki.

nice list!
I will add Manjaro as the top entry-level Ubuntu/Mint alternative (IMO)
