Gamers using Radeon + Mesa

bintsmokWhy is my system still on Vulkan 1.1.70 according to DXVK HUD? I already updated to Mesa 18.3.0 from Stable Padoka PPA.

I typed "vulkaninfo" in the Terminal and here is the output.

ADMIN SNIP, message too long.
That message was so long it wasn't even stored in the database properly. If what you have is more than like a dozen lines of output or specification, just pastebin it and don't flood the forums or any other communication medium with it.

Sorry.

Here it is.

Here is the related bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108578

Looks more like a review issue than actual feature support:

QuoteThis is not a bug. We should be able to bump the patch version but that requires to look at the changelog since 1.1.70.

If anyone is interested, I made a simple AMD GPU monitor for load and VRAM utilization: https://gitlab.com/snippets/1789143

Outdated Vulkan version reporting should be fixed in the latest Mesa master.

Graphical desktops and modern programming languages are here today. You can add whatever features to this simple monitor UI that is handy when checking if your PSU has problems for higher engine clocks or if there are bugs in the powerplay code of the amdgpu driver:
amdgpusysfs.py

debianxfceamdgpusysfs.py
That is not debian.

I wanted something simple, without need to bother with Python or GUI. For more complex cases I'd use Rust.

A little late heads up if you use some recent AMD cards and debian testing. If you use the new kernel (4.19.0.1) at the moment, it expects new firmware from the blob 'firmware-amd-graphics' that is not yet updated, so you can experience screen freezes on boot:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=916816

I'm always trying to keep firmware up to date using upstream:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/amdgpu/

Debian testing / unstable is usually very delayed with updating it for amdgpu:
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/firmware-nonfree

So copy it manually to /usr/lib/firmware/amdgpu/ and then simply run:

sudo update-initramfs -u

I also recommend avoiding 4.19.x kernels if you are using Vega, go straight to 4.20. But you'd need to build it for now, since Debian didn't package it yet.

Here is a good guide, it's actually quite easy:
https://wiki.debian.org/BuildingKernelFromUpstreamSources
