Gamers using Radeon + Mesa
x_wing commented on 15 February 2019 at 8:07 pm UTC

drlambSo I just got my Radeon VII yesterday. Anything you guys want to see ran on it? Of course the first game I try to play is a slideshow (CSGO) but I'll figure that out.

Hey, if not very problematic, try testing AMDGPU-PRO in your build.

I would like to see some Vulkan performance in the proprietary driver in order to compare with Mesa (Phoronix only tested Mesa unfortunately).

I will try to accommodate this. I just recently got my system configured the way I want it...and I might just switch back to fedora rawhide if I can get freesync working on it. That is far cleaner than Ubuntu 18.10+Mainline kernel+ mesa PPAs + git firmware.

Edit: Did just that. Freesync works well.

Why? you might ask:

  • Lutris in Default Repos*
  • Excellent Flatpak Integration - Always up to date steam, discord, piper, etc.
  • Bleeding Edge Kernels/Mesa
  • Bleeding Edge GNOME/Wayland
  • Libratbag in Default Repos*

* - Ubuntu can't say that. Rawhide isn't for everyone though. My overall point being that fedora is becoming a better and better choice for gaming.

I hope someone can help me on this.

Thanks.
