Gamers using Radeon + Mesa
pete910 commented on 2 January 2018 at 12:53 pm UTC

1 Antergos with linux-amd-staging-drm-next-git 4.14 ( later version has a bug for me)

2 1700x + RX64LTD + Giga K7 + hyperx 3200 16Gb mem

3 Mesa 17.3.1 (main repos)

4 Unable to use mesa effectively, terrible DE performance with previous card I had(1080), remedied via purchasing a AMD card(RX64)

5 Dying light refuses to work on mesa with any other distro other than *buntu

2. i5 4690s, sapphire Trix 290 GHz edition (modded BIOS), Gigabyte H97-UD3-d3h, 16gb 1600mhz
3. mesa-9999 (17.4-devel)
4. most inconcistencies automatically resolved with esteam, but i disabled steam runtime anyway
5. cant play no mans sky (needs compat profile), dying light crashes in startup (got further by fixing some dependencies, now it crashes with a "0mb vram" error)

Please add your issues to this wiki: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/wiki/Games_broken_on_Mesa

Developers aren't going to read this thread. And I assume you mean No Man's Sky in Wine? Does game's OpenGL using compat profile? That's pretty dumb.

skyrrd commented on 3 January 2018 at 9:17 am UTC

Sure will do that. But it's a bit more complex. It runs fine on my Debian buster partition and on other distributions where solus' steam (and lsi) snap package can be installed.
Thats to my testing. I have read mixed results with ubuntu.

After some poking around i was able to get rid oft some library issues and am now stuck with a problem that seems to be distribution specific (mesa-bug closed because it "only affects lesser used distributions like gentoo" )

Yes no mans sky is said to use compat profile (and does work with amdgpu-pro and nvidia drivers in wine)
But that was also thought of dying light so i'm not absolutely sure about that.

My setup:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.7ghz
  • AMD RX 580 8GB
  • Mesa 17.3.1
  • Radeon RX 580 Series (POLARIS10 / DRM 3.19.0 / 4.14.10-1-ARCH, LLVM 5.0.1)

I've just kicked off on a full-time linux setup, and will be streaming and playing games regularly on Twitch and Youtube gaming!

this last two months I haven't been gaming that much. I've been involved in this crypto mining side project . Man AMD really shines at mining. I'm able to make 100/80 USD a month with these two rx 460. I'm about to make a new machine with four 380, I know they suck energy like a pig but polaris minable cards have skyrocket, anyways electricity is three times cheaper here in Argentina than in North America or Europe.
It really shines I can play Dirt Rally whith lowest graphics detail and still mine the same. Games not graphics intensive like ShadowRun or Hard West there is no need to decrease graphics quality.
I bet that with a 580/480 you can play most games at medium quality with almost no performance penalty while mining.

I've been experimenting with MESA GPU PRIME off loading but it doesn't work as expected if you off load OpenGL to the second card the games lags quite a lot. Hope they improve videocard off loading on Vulkan.

I've recently been playing SR Dragonfall on my old little E350-companion (Lenovo x121e). It's still alive and kicking with r600g
