Project Zomboid crashes GPU driver
Dr_Cox1911 Oct 3, 2019
Hi all,

I currently have the problem that the game Project Zomboid (Steam version) is freezing for a short amount of time. After it froze for like 5s the game runs fine for a minute before the next freeze hits.

I typed in "dmesg" right after such a freeze and here is the last output:
[  509.916420] [drm:amdgpu_dm_atomic_commit_tail [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out or interrupted!
[  515.036491] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx timeout, but soft recovered
[  563.164585] [drm:amdgpu_dm_atomic_commit_tail [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out or interrupted!
[  568.285154] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx timeout, but soft recovered

My system info:
Ryzen 2700x
Sapphire Vega RX 64 Nitro+
16GB G.Skills RAM

My Linux info:
Distri: Fedora 30
Kernel: 5.2.17-200
GPU-Driver: Mesa 19.1.7

In Windows everything is running fine.
Hope that someone in here can help me.

No one has any idea? The devs suppose that it might be similar to this older bug regarding a gcc-bug that built Mesa wrong.

Yeah that looks like a driver bug, have you reported it to the Mesa team?
