Shadow of The Tomb Raider, Proton
StalePopcorn May 22, 2023
After recently finishing Rise of The Tomb Raider, I finally got around to trying Shadow of The Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, through Proton it'll launch, give an error about the Tomb Raider servers being down, I can only click 'OK' and the game quits to the desktop. After messing with it a little bit I decided to try the native version which, thank God, plays quite well on my system (thank you Feral!).

ProtonDB posts aren't really helpful, I'd still like to get it to work through Proton to try the DX12 version, any personal experience on that front?

Try different Proton versions? Possible regression?

There are some minor issues mentioned here, but nothing crash-to-dekstop bad as far as I can tell:

Yeah, no version of Proton is preventing this crash/quit(?). I'm just happy the native version actually works, it was the opposite case with Rise of The Tomb Raider.

I just figured it out. While trying the DX12 version again I noticed that changing to minimal settings the game actually loaded. Changing to Ultra—instant crash to desktop, changing settings one by one and, if I changed Shadow Quality to ANYTHING except Off and it'd instantly crash to desktop. Everything except Shadow Quality could be touched and set to Maximum.
