Quoting: StoneColdSpiderWell im a complete moron and instead of editing my post..... I accidentally deleted it and took out the entire thread....... I am if not anything utterly incompetent..... So heres a new one...... Sorry for the hassle of having to recreate posts....... Its totally my fault....... Sorry Guys.......
Don't worry, my friend, it happens to the best of us!

I still had my screenshots from the previous version of my reply to this post, though unfortunately I'd already erased my weekly gaming notes, but I should be able to reconstruct it to some degree;

My first pick for this weekend was Frog Detective 3: Corruption at Cowboy County - a charming spoof of the detective genre, and the final entry in its trilogy. Like all of the Frog Detective games, it's not especially long - an hour or so, tops - but that's perfect for what it's trying to do.

I had waited to buy it until I was sure that Proton support was fine for the third game, like it was for the other two, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing - it was a great conclusion to the series, and I respect the devs' decision not to run it into the ground by making a ton more.

If you're after a chilled-out, family-friendly take on this genre that's fun no matter how old you are, I'd thoroughly recommend the Frog Detective games. All three of them, in order.

Of course, my other pick for this weekend is Super Bomberman R 2 (Proton)! Things are going great with this game, and it's the first that I've eagerly waited for in years that has absolutely delivered, and then some. To say that I'm absolutely delighted with it would be a MASSIVE understatement!

I might just be trying to singlehandedly get Super Bomberman R 2 onto the official Steam Deck Most Played list for September, too.

I've been having fun dressing Bomberman up in various outfits - doesn't he look adorable wearing this ridiculous raincoat, with a fish on his head? There must be some really bad storms out there!

I also might've started an in-game fashion-trend with this tough-looking combo - after I took it online and posted some screenshots, a bunch of other people seemed to run with it, too! That was a really cool moment for me.

[+..••] Other stuff that I played this week;

Ape Out (Proton)

Ape Out Jr. (Devolver Bootleg) (Proton)

Biomutant (Proton)

Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy) (Proton)

Yep - a metal dodecahedron!

Well, I did take several screenshots, and that one certainly stood out to me for future re-use...

I'm pretty much gamed out right now, but that Dakar 18 sounds great. I'm not keen on racing games (like on a track) but a cross country one across different terrain would be good. When I get a racing game, I don't do very many of the races, I just like to free drive as fast as I can without wiping out. (e.g. "need for speed" games are good that way)

Also "the driving being a little too forgiving" sounds like a benefit for me. Too many driving games have arbitrary driving difficulty. It's a video game... why does it have to be harder than real life driving? lol

I mean really, if some of those cars handled like they do in video games, engineers would be fired.

No you pronounced it wrong........ Its pronounced dodecahedrom..... Pay attention......

So your already looking to recycle material........

Well you are in luck........ Dakar 18 does have a free roam mode..... I have no tried it yet so I cant tell you much about it...... But I will give it a go later tonight or tomorrow and let you know.......

The way the Kamaz truck drives is actually pretty good even though the physics do get a bit wonky at times......... Its the terrain that is to forgiving for my liking.........

It annoys me more than it annoys most people as I love the Dakar Rally and I was really looking forward to fighting the terrain as much as the navigation and the vehicle itself....... And it just doesnt do that........ Its sooooo hard to get stuck in the sand and mud its kind of a joke...... You dont need to be careful at all on the dunes....... When in reality you need to be careful how to attack the dunes as to not get stuck........ Its just a real let down for me........ Its just a tad to far the other way....... Maybe its a truck thing and the cars are harder to drive...... But the Kamaz truck can just yeet over nearly every dune no matter the size or angle of attack..... And besides huge rocks/boulders the rest of the terrain poses very little issues as well......

Yes its a bit of a nitpick...... But if you want a REALISTIC Dakar Rally experience that is one area that is a massive let down...... For me at least.......

If they had easy terrain on the easy difficulty and hard terrain on harder difficulties that would have been perfect.......

As a super long time former sim racer I totally agree...... Race cars are not hard to drive....... They are hard to drive FAST....... Getting every tenth out of the car is the hard part......... That is the difference that they (Developers/Publishers and Fans) dont seem to understand.......

They seem to equate hard to drive with realism....... If the cars where as hard to drive in real life as they are in most sim racing games........ Not only would all the engineers be fired........ But nearly every driver would be dead.......

I've never had much willpower when I've wanted something, so I bought the bloody thing. I always get what I want :-)

It's just that I've got so many games I should be playing that I've recently bought, and a credit card that doesn't need any more charges this month. Money left at the end of the month? Never... there's always lots of month left at the end of the money, more like lol

Just to let you know the free roam mode is called "Treasure Hunt" and its in the "Explore" menu..... When you fire up the game and see the menus what I just said will make a lot more sense..........
Grogan Sep 26
I just chose the Explore, and tested a couple of the race events.

The first one was with that Kamaz truck, on the dunes. I see what you mean, but it's also too stupid that the truck is a slow, lumbering vehicle. (Even so, it should be more top heavy than that though... I'd expect to tip that thing on its side, being frivolous on sand dunes)

So the next race I chose was with a bike, and I picked the next event. It started out on bumpy dirt paths and I saw my character shaking lol (felt the controller's force feedback too of course). That was pretty good, the bike felt about right. After I got on pavement, the bike was wrong because it had special tires for dirt though.

I'll have to play with this a lot more tonight :-)

I finished a whole racing stage, yay me. It was easy (and I'm on "Rookie" settings) but the dune buggy type thing "RZR 1000 Turbo" handled about as realistically as I'd like it to be (without arbitrary difficulty, erring on the side of easy)

That's about right for difficulty for my lame ass. On my first race, I beat the other vehicles by about 5 minutes! Yes, every kid gets a first place trophy in this league :-)

My spotter kept admonishing me about taking damage, and danger close. I couldn't find the eject button. I did manage to roll it, but ended up righted after a few tumbles.

I'm just going to free race, this is a lot of fun.

It must go on GPS position or something. We have a hud marker to line up with, but in those desert off road parts where it takes you on invisible twists and turns to get to checkpoints it must be a gps route or something? (I know nothing about this).

If your racing on Rookie....... follow the yellow dot at the top of the screen that shows you where the next waypoint marker is.........

And yes the navigator directs you in Compass (Cap)/Bearing headings in degrees....... So if he says "NOW TURN RIGHT TO CAP 206"....... You turn to the right to compass/bearing heading 206 degrees which is also shown at the top of the screen........ Its not easy and im still having a lot of troubling stringing it all together on the higher difficulties.........

Reading the road book........ Watching the cap....... Listening to the navigator........ Checking for speed zones....... Watching out for rocks and dips...... All at the same time....... Its a lot to take in at first......

While I do agree the makes to too hard to roll the trucks........ The trucks arnt actually THAT top heavy........ As you can see here...... most of the top of the truck is empty........ with all the components set as low as possible to make the centre of gravity as low as possible.......

While you can indeed roll the trucks over in real life....... They are actually harder to roll than you would think by just looking at it with the sides down...... Though the game does take that to the extreme.....

Yeah im an engineering/tech nerd when it comes to race vehicles...... I love seeing the ingenious solutions they have for issues like wight distribution and other boring stuff like that.......

Glad you are enjoying the game though
