I can do streaming from my PC via ethernet and WiFi only, BUT WiFi being what it is it's not reliable.
I have several OpenWRT One in my house, properly configured for having multiple APs with the same SSID, segregated all 2.4GHz devices onto their own SSID, Gigabit Ethernet throughout the house, and still I get the odd disconnect without the dongle.

So, use the dongle, save yourself some headache.

Quoting: TarosOne question: Do I even need the Wifi dongle? My PC is connected via Ethernet and my Wifi router is directly in the living room where I want to play VR games.
It has multi-link, so your question should rather be: do I even need to connect it to my Wifi router or just use the Wifi dongle? Part of the reason why the dongle exists is because people often don't have modern routers that can do the bandwidth or the concurrency that the low latency streaming needs. The dongle is direct link between your headset and PC without any other device on it.
The reason for having both is that it can use the dongle for just streaming and regular wifi for all other steam related connectivity. But if your regular wifi is actually better, then it could switch if multilink streaming is on.

Hello, my European 256GB got purchased on Tuesday and packaged yesterday (Thursday), hopefully I'll get it next week.
No accessories were available unfortunately, I'd have liked to get the comfort pack. Though coming from an Index, I plan to get the official audio strap later anyway. Meanwhile I'll figure out something, like I do lately so my Index holds together until it can get some rest after 7 years of frequent use…
I installed SteamOS this summer on my gaming PC, in addition to Debian (main OS since the 90s) and Windows 10 (as required by games). So I'm ready to try things.

Yes, but there have been reports that it switching can cause stutter and obviously your PC, which the dongle is plugged in, also has internet connectivity, so do you really need it to connect to your router? Probably not.
The point is that most people have some older routers or the router is in some other room. The dongle is Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz), which is excellent for short distance low latency connection.

I'm probably gonna use our homes wifi, I went with ubiquti u7 lite, in the livingroom, because I was thinking if I had the pro version than all our new tech would jump on to 6ghz anyway, and with the shortrange of 6ghz, it sounded like I wouldn't benefit that much for the upgrade. But if the latency is horrible, I will probably upgrade to u7 pros

Our office is atleast 20m away so I would probably only use the dongle in there.

Im just slowly dying waiting for the damn thing.

I bought this cable so the dongle is directly in my living room next to me (there were problems when it used my router's WiFi.

It works perfectly and I do not even have the additional power supply connected to it.

Aw, damn. I'm 2027 as well. At least they're giving us an expectation though. I'd be tearing my hair out if I still hadn't heard anything in the run up to Christmas, for example.
