Unconventional Warfare from developer Nightlife Strangers is now officially funded on Kickstarter and thanks to that it's confirmed to be coming to Linux. Against their goal of $20K, they only just scraped by with $20,841 which is backed up by a small amount they get monthly from their Patreon page too.

"Unconventional Warfare is a tactical shooter where you lead cute soldiers to safety from a never ending war. Recruit & manage your squad members from different backgrounds, make hard decisions and fight for your lives."

Not seen it yet? It's an interesting fusion of real-time tactical battles on a 3D battlefield, plus some Visual Novel like elements for a bunch of the story-telling. It's broken up into different parts including travel across a big world-map using a common turn-based and node-based travel system like seen in others.

If you missed it, we had a chat with the team in our previous article. They sound rather confident on supporting Linux, with cross-platform not being treated as an afterthought like we've seen too many other times. Their Kickstarter was also very clear on this, with the FAQ mentioning the platforms as "Unconventional Warfare will be supported for PC first(Windows, Mac and Linux)".

You can see the finished Kickstarter here, and wishlist/follow it on Steam. There's also a demo available on Steam.

Since it's funded, it's now listed on our dedicated Crowdfunding Page.

Exciting, this game really looks cool. But... the description is confusing. "Tactical shooter" for me is an entirely different thing, and this game doesn't look at all like a "shooter" - just a regular tactical game.
