This is awesome news.

Space sandbox game 'Avorion' has a whopper of an update, considering getting a server for it

Quoting: Nor MantisGOL Starmade server?

A Starmade Server might be nice. Had problems with that game though, mouse reset to centre every time I passed into a new sector. Really annoying in dogfights. It's fun to build ships together anyhow.

Quoting: JanPeople not willing to pay for essential work like converting or partly rebuilding a DirectX-based game for OpenGL or Vulkan and play-testing on several distributions is both sad and frustrating to see.

As long as the attitude of some Linux users (both new and veteran) regarding this topic is not changing, I'm afraid Linux gaming will remain a tiny niche even compared to Mac gaming.

To give you 3 current examples:

1. Aspyr pitched both a Mac and Linux version of Mafia III to 2K. They agreed on macOS, but were not interested in the Linux market.

2. Jonathan Blow released the Mac version of The Witness using the Metal-API a few days ago on the Mac App Store first (self-published), Steam will follow later. Some people on Twitter and I guess reddit asked him for a Linux version. He basically answered "no one would buy them anyway as Braid didn't make any money on Linux".

3. Double Fine released Headlander for Mac using Apple's Metal-API and denied plans for Linux support because Adult Swim doesn't see its viability. The game was built for DirectX and Metal only -- no OpenGL or Vulkan support.

This might change as soon as more companies start to build their games from scratch using Vulkan instead of DirectX 12.

But for the moment, Apple's decision to axe OpenGL and go Metal-only on macOS and iOS hurts Linux gaming more than some people might admit.

A couple of counter points where the hell did you get that information from as i googled that and got nothing are you sure thats real because 2k have been very pro Linux. Point 2 Braid sold badly under linux okay boo hoo maybe it was the length of time it took to get to linux and secondly its not exactly a must play game imo. Double fine abandoning Linux would be a shame but meh can live without more pixel retro indie games.

Secondly why would anyone be happy to pay for a game twice I own it played it and beat it on another platform. When i switched to Linux I made a point to only buy games that are Linux but why should i be financially punished for dual booting back in the day.

He is just making things out of his.... mind.

That is not about api,if a game comes to Linux 2 years later;of course people won't buy it.Because game will be unpopular as the time goes by.

And that 'Braid'. C'mon,it's not a must play game so it shouldn't be surprising.

Nice, I always wanted to create an RPG, but my creative anilities are more in line with world / story creation. Considerimg I was the game master for many many moons.

I own some of the previous versions due to humble bundles. I will be buying this to see what I can make.

I'm glad that it includes the editor as well. That's pretty important. Now we have one more engine.

Edit: as there might not be anything to patch.

Yeah... Missing that one too. Was a great game :( but since it never got an hd update it wont be rereleased for linux i think...

That is sarcasm right? SS2 was the worst part of them all, because they had to scale down everything only to make it compatible with the weak consoles in the past. Because of that the maps were super small and the monster hords were also a lot smaller in number. To top it all of they thought a super colorful almost cartoony look would be a good idea. I think Croteam tries not to think about SS2 anymore.

This is HUGE for me! RPG Maker was one of the handful of programs that I have been eagerly awaiting on Linux! Out of curiosity, will we see a review of this one?

Quoting: tuubi
Quoting: dubigrasuVulkan is with about 30 FPS faster than OpenGL, but eventually I switched back to OpenGL since vsync on Vulkan doesn't really work.
The current build of Talos is fine and tearless for me on Vulkan with Nvidia's full composition pipeline enabled and the in-game frame limiter set to 60. I didn't really miss vsync. Assuming SS Fusion runs on the same engine, does this not work for you?
Well, it does work but it also adds a periodic slight stutter unfortunately. Is a bit more hard to spot it though when playing with a mouse or a Steam Controller due to more fast movements. But with an gamepad for example I can apply a smooth slow camera rotation and then it becomes very visible. Is like a one frame jump at few seconds intervals.
I do use it when watching Netflix etc, but gave up on it for gaming.
Not sure if is my specific system to blame or I'm just too sensitive to every little glitch, I'll probably need to test it on different hardware/distro to be sure.
Thanks.

Does it work well if your talents are aligned the other way around? I can code reasonably well, but I can't draw stick figures to save my life.

Sounds like a good opportunity to join forces...

I would say so, since you can use pre-made assets and the community makes new assets all the time. You will do fine I think.

Exactly what I was going to say. I look forward to more games doing the same.

Jack Orlando: Director's Cut now has a Wine-port on Steam for Linux
By Shmerl, 21 March 2017 at 3:21 pm UTC Likes: 4

Since the game is on GOG, they should probably release the Linux update there too. They did it for Two Worlds.

QuoteIf Wine gets updated and the game works better, they can simply slot in a new Wine version.

I prefer to use regular Wine however, because exactly of that. Topware aren't going to update the Wine wrapper, it's an extra burden for them. Case in point, their previous releases.

At first I was like, pfft, JRPG things, not my cup of anything. But then I saw two games that I own: Lisa and Splatter: Blood Red Edition, and I thought "Oh, okay. That is cool news." Maybe we'll see a slew of RPGMaker games ported to Linux soon.

Played this game many, many years ago and loved it. It's flawed, and difficult, but the atmosphere, plot and original soundtrack are top!

I wish this wine port it's on GOG at some point too...

No there are just 2 versions of the game on Steam. One package has the depots of the Mac and Linux versions which are steamplay with each other. One package only has the Windows version which is also steamplay but as the only depot in it is the Windows version it's only "steamplay" with Windows.

Just gone through the first 15 pages of games, and there are a number in my existing Steam games collection. I guess that it will be up to the developers whether they bother to release their titles to Linux or not.

Here's a few that I've got already (but not necessarily on Linux yet):

Memories of a Vagabond
Heroes of Legionwood
DarkEnd
The Dark Stone from Mebara
Between Me and the Night

Also, here's the link you'd use to check the list of Steam games:
http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/RPGMaker/#p=0&tab=TopSellers

On the Steam list, I already spot a few games "on Linux"
