Just bought and tested briefly. Graphics and atmosphere reminds me on Phantasy Star Online.
That's why I like it from the first moment. Simple but nice game-play. Good and exciting for kids, I think. With the highest graphics settings I come to a GPU utilization of 40% with my GTX 970 (resolution 1920x1080).

EDIT: Tested under Xubuntu 16.4 with nvidia driver 367.57.

Yes, but this is one that actually made it out of early access. :D

Me too. The game did say to choose hard for the real experienced. Everything went fine until the alien came into play. The bloodbath continues. :D

Made my sister play outlast, she couldn't play once using the camera to see in the dark became mandatory(first hour of the game).

Played it with a friend then, after a few hours you start getting how poorly the artificial intelligence is designed and it doesn't scares you much then.

Good game though.

If you haven't done it already, play the Penumbra games. They are a bit dated graphically, but have a great atmosphere, story, and physics engine. Amnesia TDD is also great.

Also I would highly suggest Reveal the Deep. It's a small 2D game priced at €0.99 on Steam. Despite the price I found it to be very well made and actually creepy.

Tomb Raider may not be particularly scary, but it's pretty gore, so it would fit I guess.

Shoot the developers an email maybe? One reason why Megabyte Punch now has a Linux version up on GOG is because I contacted the dev about it.

Very good idea. I did so myself for Sky Break. I also added it to the community wishlist at GOG in case anyone else wants to vote for it.

Most of the time they're just another game trying to be minecraft. Remember when 'Open-world' meant something like the Ultima games (except maybe 8, which was pretty linear and terrible). Now 'Open-world' mostly means 'a pointless romp around some environment where you build things, and potentially get attacked by other things that break the things you built so you have to start over.'

You can have huge landscapes, but when they all end up looking the same...

I hope this will not derail the discussion, but I personally appreciate Steam and the service it provides. I used to prefer DRM-free when I had tens of games. But when it went into hundreds after a bundle frenzy, I have no way to store or manage all of them myself. It's like trying to download all of Netflix.

I can only speak for myself but I for one don't wish games only on GOG. I prefer to buy them on GOG but understand other people prefer Steam. I think it's the best for everyone when we both get the versions we want.

I am actually the opposite of you. I started to prefer DRM free as my collection grew because it became more of a risk and a realization that Valve has the power to take my games away by banning my account. They may never do that but they have the power. If GOG were to cease to exist tomorrow I have all of my games downloaded in multiple locations so I would be unaffected.

For those who are interested, installing nvidia-libgl instead of mesa-libgl did the trick, beside that it's running smooth now in 4k and max settings.

Pretty good game for its price. Art Style is nice and the setting. story is pretty generic but there are logbooks to get more background info in the game. AI pathfinding is pretty bad tbh. theres crafting but luckily no food or water requirements. you can also build a spaceship at some point to travel faster between the regions.

quick gameplay video as always:

Does this have a story and an ending? If yes, I am definitely interested.

I am quite sceptical of these survival/exploration games that seems to be the thing now. I find it really hard to get into an endless game, because it feels that there is no point to whatever I am doing.
