Tomb Raider tested on R7 370 4G and HD 7970

Quoting: edddeduckferalThere is a library called Square Enix Online that is part of the online multiplayer and some of the achievement statistics in the game. This is the first game on Linux with this library so it has a few issues with VPN but we are working with Square Enix to get them resolved so you can play behind a VPN again.

Im not behind a vpn at all. Is this square enix online library doing more than trying to open a socket to call home? :P

Anybody with more time than me can checkout the system calls and allay my concerns here?

Id love to be able to sandbox games, although I dont know if it is possible and keep access to the GPU

Quoting: constI really think that monitor-configuration should get part of sdl framework. Instead of selecting resolution/monitors/fs etc. in a game launcher, there should be a global tool, that can generate (priorized) config files that are used by all sdl applications.
I think of a tool similar to how arandr/xrandr work. Just super versatile.
You mean something like nVidia system settings or ATI Catalyst Control Center with their (old) proprietary drivers? Just for SDL/MESA?

Think of a tool that let's you decide the start-up settings for ALL your games that utilize SDL. Resolution, windowed/not windowed, single/multi screen, etc.. Configurations should be a prioritized list, so if your default is not supported, game will fall back to the next configuration until it finds a supported one. If it finds none, the tool is called with limiters.

I summited them a bug report... Hopefully they can short it out

Disable your VPN is you have one enabled the game is known to have issues when launched behind a VPN and this has been the cause for a few crashes on launch.

Wow... # systemctl stop openvpn made it work... I dont even redirect any traffic to that vpn...

Not to distrust what this game is trying to do on launch so the vpn makes it crashes... but can i ask you the cause of this?

The GOG.com page for Shadow Warrior 2 still lists it as being Windows only, but given it is mostly a provisional page made for later expansion, I am not sure if that means much.

I would certainly be willing to give Hard Reset Redux a try too if it comes to Linux.

I had abysmal performance on the opening cinematic, which had the video freeze at times although the audio kept going without a hitch. But once the actual gameplay started that pretty much cleared up.

My biggest issues with the game itself are more content-based, especially how the game falls in love with its death scenes. I know that Lara dying in interesting ways is a tradition that goes back to the first game, but they go a little nuts with it here. Especially the river scene!

It also turns into pretty much Ms. Shooty Woman after a while, and exploring all these cool environments takes a back seat to killing a couple hundred mooks who have no sense of self-preservation, then move on to the next set piece and do it again. Not really what I want out of a Tomb Raider game.

I do really like all the platforming though. The running and jumping bits are really satisfying, and you really do get that sense of adventure from them. The cliff village is a great example, or running through the cave early on.

Nice! The first game was far better than I had expected and this looks like a *Must Have!* title as well. I certainly hope this also means that "Hard Reset Redux" will show up on Linux as well.

"Hard Reset Redux, is now in the works. It's being built on the latest version of the Roadhog engine (which is also being used for Shadow Warrior 2) and will include all of the content in the original Hard Reset as well as the Exile expansion. The overhauled edition will feature improved graphics, new enemy variants, and changes to pacing and balance"

Quoting: liamdaweHonestly I don't expect any new games to come with Vulkan until next year.
If UE4 receive full support to Vulkan, I don't think it takes so long.

However tessellation is a very heavy feature (without tressfx) reduce around 15fps and gpu temp is higher

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTBut the ports are native, aren't they? I thought if you need to rewrite the whole engine anyway, it might be possible to get the best performance out of OpenGL that is possible. We could only hope that well optimized Vulkan games will have the same performance as either Vulkan on Windows or an D3DX12 (the syntax is very similar) Vulkan port on linux.

Yes it is possible with a lot of time. Which is not really profitable. Considering there are not too many(percentage wise) people who actually interested in FPS but rather in smooth game-play and smooth game play can be even achieved with 30 FPS it is even more evidently that it is not main focus while porting games. So yes will hope that developers will stop using directx at all ore porting from directx to vulkan will be without big performance loss.

I'm going to buy to Feral directly the next time... ^_^

Quoting: omer666TressFX just kills my GTX660. Other than this it seems to run pretty well on Ultra, I'll see if it stays playable.

If I remember correctly TressFX is AMD tech and it used to kill fps on NVIDIA cards also when TR came out. A lot of time has passed since then. Did they change the tech to work well on NVIDIA cards as well? Otherwise I would say it's expected behavior (regardless of OS). I'll give a try too now.

I think they did make a few patches to improve performance, but Nvidia probably also made driver changes to accommodate it. It wouldn't be surprising to learn those accommodations never made it into the Linux drivers.

Yeah, you're right. I found some articles claiming that. For my part I confirm that tressfx kills my 660ti as well. For the rest the game is supersmooth and enjoyable as it were when it came out on Windows so I don't really care. Very good job Feral!
