Europa Universalis IV: Mare Nostrum released

As much as I love Paradox games. They could at least try to fix the absolutely broken cross platform multiplayer. Wanted to try the new changes with some friends last night. Three Windows people and me with Linux. I was basically out of sync straight after unpausing every time we tried. Had to go back and use wine to play EU4. That kind of sucked. Especially since they probably won't convert soon after seeing that it didn't work because of me.

Quoting: dlfi'd rather have a earlier blizzard title - Warcraft 1/2/3, Diablo 1/2, Starcraft 1/broodwar

Diablo 3 with Steam Controller support. And local co-op.

The day we see that happen the earth shall shatter, lava will start flow in the country whilst legion of deamons will pour in our cities streets. And Sean Bean will not die in a movie.

For the last seal will be broken and the End War will begin!

I'm Italian, but game runs in English. I analized a bit the game folder and found that it is the GOG version installed using Wine. On the GOG store page they state that the game supports only English and Russian, that should explain the missing languages.

I'll install the game using my regular WINE and tell you if the missing languages are present.

I see the first issue in this beta. The game runs in English and in the Steam Store shows that Spanish language is included. In game I don't see where I can change it.

I have zero problems with "wrapper ports" as long as they feel like a native game. I prefer wrapper ports over no ports.

Quoting: leillo1975To me, Wine is a perfect solution to "port" this old games. I don't have any problem if this game works perfect and the support is good.

I love a lot of good old games and I happy if I can play it in Linux without complications. Only click on install and ready to play.

Agreed! The important thing is that we can play and have quality support.

QuoteI think it's really great they are doing this for older titles.

Agreed... and I seriously hope that more developers/publishers consider doing this with their older catalog just to spare end users (especially SteamOS ones) the hassle of manually configuring WINE.

Gorky 17, another classic Topware published title now in beta for Linux, uses Wine

Quoting: leillo1975Don't work in my PC. I execute the game but nothing happens. My avatar square border puts in green one second and then it back to blue

In terminal I have the following error:

Game update: AppID 253920 "Gorky 17", ProcID 4011, IP 0.0.0.0:0
ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/leo/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

Game removed: AppID 253920 "Gorky 17", ProcID 4011
No cached sticky mapping in ActivateActionSet.

The problem is that I use a NTFS shared partition with Windows to install the games. I think that I have to make a EXT4 partition for Linux games. I have the same problem with CoH2 and Tropico 5. In this moment I only have 2 Windows-only games installed and this NTFS disk have 1TB. I will divide this disk in 800 (ext4) and 200 (NTFS) when I need to reinstall or update my distro.

Ahhhh, the game was patched and now it works well, and it don't have resolution problems.

You don't need to worry about that, they use Humble Store for their keys at the moment, it's as good as any store.

Unfortunately you're. Blizzard would port inhouse. Still I do hope for SC II seeing the light of linux some day. TFT and Diablo III would be a nice to have extra.

Star Craft II....please do not give me false hopes :S: :P

I think it's Mad Max as well. I'm not at all interested in it, still it would be nice for the people that like to play it.

Darkest Dungeon has two Linux beta updates, still issues to be worked out
By lidstah, 7 April 2016 at 12:24 pm UTC

I have tested the linux beta version of Darkest Dungeon on two machines:

- My main rig: i7-4790 @3.6GHz, Nvidia GTX960, archlinux, nvidia driver 361.28-4: the empty map bug happens randomly, but mainly on the first dungeon after game starts. Closing and relaunching the game seems to work, although I had some random map bugs during a game session last week.

- Laptop: thinkpad X201, i5-520m, Intel HD GPU, archlinux, kernel modesetting driver: I never had the map bug. Although the game says it needs OpenGL 3.2 capable GPU it works reasonably well on this OpenGL 2.1 capable GPU as long as you disable motion blur. Perfect for a long train travel :)

The map bug seems to be mainly nvidia related (although I haven't read the whole bug topic on steam forums)

Quoting: adolsonI don't think you understand how porting games actually works.
Ha.

Quoting: adolsonIt's so frustrating that I keep seeing Linux users buying Windows games to run in Wine so when we get ports months or years after the original release, the sales are pitiful and discouraging.

That's too bad but to be expected. I've ended up with so many games from bundles over the years, generally mixed with GNU/Linux games.

Further, when a title is so old, of course most people even remotely interested in the game would have picked it up on a sale. If you're really excited about something, why not pick it up on a Steam sale for $5 after a couple of years and take a chance with Wine. After all, the vast majority of games don't get ports, so the chances are very slim of a native build ever being released.

Developers need to factor these considerations into deciding which games to port and writing contracts, and I'm certain they do.

Quoting: adolsonNot all of us use Wine, bucko. Those of us who actually want more games to be ported actually spend our money on the games that get ported, and do our best to not add to the Windows sales figures.
That's your prerogative of course, but I would argue that the large Wine and CrossOver userbase (and Transgaming before that) is one of the reasons GNU/Linux gaming is as big as it is today - because it demonstrated a need for a market. For example, I've been gaming using Wine on GNU/Linux well before GNU/Linux Steam builds were ever available.

So how about you? Are you telling me you've never played an EA game, or a Blizzard game or a Telltale game? Even if you played on console or any other platform, you're a hypocrite since that too wouldn't be a GNU/Linux sale. So stop knocking Wine.

You have to spend a lot of gold on supplies when entering a dungeon, and you just get a tiny fraction of it back for unused supplies. Entering/Leaving dungeons without finding any loot will have you bankrupt in no time...

I don't think the map issue prevents progress, you just have to restart the game? That's worked for me, anyway.

I've also put in a lot of time since the beta dropped, and I highly recommend it as-is.
