Talos Principle & Serious Sam 3 getting Vulkan updates, Serious Sam 4 will be on a much improved engine

Serious Sam 3 and Talos Principle run great on my Intel quad core & GTX 660.
By Eike, 26 January 2016 at 1:13 pm UTC
Quoting: wojtek88I was thinking that my rig was not good enough for SS3 so I assumed I will be able to play it after hardware upgrade. Was the game playable for someone?

SS3 and the Talos games already ran like a champ for me, so this update does little for me. Still, it's great to hear and hopefully goes some way toward improving performance for those who had performance issues.

I'm surprised to hear that so many people had performance issues with Serious Sam 3. The game always ran as butter for me, even on ultra graphics it never dipped below 60 FPS, on a GTX 660 that is.
Talos had a bit better graphics so I had to play on high to achieve a stable frame rate, but it looked amazing nontheless.

Nvidia 650M, the card is able to do SRIV on medium at 25fps, other games are smoother and the graphics of SS3 aren't even close to Bioshock Infinite, Spec Ops and many more.

Quoting: psychodriverQuoting: linuxgamerFor me Talos and Serious Sam 3: BFE had a quite low performance. Talos went well as there is very few time depending action, but it was not possible to play a FPS like SS3, so I preferred to get a refund.

I'm guessing an AMD thang or you play on a potato. I went through SS3 back on my Athlon II and GTX 460 and it ran beautifully even then. To me it seems like one of the better natively optimized engines.

Our Linux & SteamOS gamer survey results for January 2016

I want to second this. The "standard" question may be put even less frequent IMHO, while I'm all interested in many of the special questions.
I feel the survey is quite Linux centric and not so gaming/SteamOS centric. Maybe interests have shifted in the last years? I'm much more interested in hearing how many people are using the Steam Controller e. g. than how many are using which DE...

Quoting: DonkeyMaybe there could be two kinds of surveys. One full version every second month (like we have now) and a smaller and quicker version for the rest. The small version could remove all the boring questions like desktop, gpu, drivers and then spice things up by adding a few more of the interesting questions (new ones each time).

The best thing you can do to most legendary classic games is keeping them in sweet memory,
the worst thing is to actually play them again.
One of the very few exceptions for me was Metal Gear I & II on MSX.

Quoting: tuubiPersonally I'm not going to touch this one. I did enjoy (some of) these classics back in the day, but the simplistic arcade gameplay just isn't my idea of fun anymore.

it'll be interesting to see the benchmark difference between the 2 games for sure. it's going to be funny to see a lot better framerate on the newer game vise the older one at least until SS3 gets an update if it does.

I don't really find the current graphs hard to read or anything. Three things though:
+1 for round numbers on the y-axis (2,4,7,9% doesn't make sense at all, even more so when the distances between the bars are the same, yet are rounded to different numbers)
-1 for always going up to 100% - blank space above the highest value is a waste.
Also, maybe reformat the months to look like:
okt nov dec jan
15 15 15 16

It will be very interesting to see if Vulkan can make these games, in particular SS3, run on a 7950 from zero to hero.
However, it's not clear 7950 will get Vulkan on Linux at all, AFAIK. :/

Good sign that is.

Death by Game Show is a really weird strategy game now on Linux, some thoughts
By Liam Dawe, 26 January 2016 at 9:36 am UTC
I would love to do them myself, but I am rather pressed for time a lot nowadays. Even a ten minute video can end up taking hours to get correct after cutting down gameplay, editing and so on.
By Liam Dawe, 26 January 2016 at 9:36 am UTC
Quoting: 14Maybe you have reason not to, but it'd be cool if you made videos with commentary of you playing the game. They wouldn't necessarily have to be really long like giantbomb quick looks, but a few minutes of real gameplay + commentary goes nicely with a trailer and text.

Ha, I've been getting back to my old Atari's lately (namely the ST line of computers, as I was finally able to get a Falcon030) and this kind of mixes in with my thoughts about why Atari went wrong... mainly that their glory days really were the 2600, and after that I think they didn't understand how to get developers to create software for their other platforms, that's certainly what killed off the 8-bits, the STs and the Jaguar.
It'd be a shame for a package of 100 Atari games on Steam to only have 2600 games though.
On another note, they made a Combat 2 and Adventure 2?

Mighty No. 9 delayed again due to networking problems

This is a Mega Man clone, a game that can be played without any network features. I don't understand why don't they apologize, RELEASE the game without the online features and, after the bugs are fixed, they update the game and bring the online mode. All current gaming platforms have update capabilities.
Keiji Inafune should have made this decision, and not delay the game again. Kickstarter backers are now really pissed. I am a backer, and while I'm not pissed, I am disappointed. If Inafune wasn't our last hope to see "Mega Man" alive again (as Capcom haven't released new games of him for a long time), I would be pissed to have backed the project and now see this happening.

I agree, but put in heavy gameplay just on one encounter makes no sense. That's not fully thought through and bad done, or it was just the pre-game and an end-encounter because they realized they couldn't finish the game otherwhise. Sorry ;-).
But I agree, one of the better picks. Though, I personally enjoyed Shadow of Mordor a bit more. And my best pick certainly was Mount&Blade: Warband :D.

Last year I have lost my faith in Keiji Inafune because of that Kickstarter fiasco. Now they just confirm it again. How such a simple game like this can be delayed so many times? If one or two platforms are holding then back why not launch the finished ones?
And his involvement in 2 more games before he deliver the first one, for the people who put his name back on track, who paid in advance?
Sorry, but I will not buy this game if its not turn out in game of the year material. I do not want to encourage this type of behavior from a developer.
