Shovel Knight - A groundbreaking love letter to 8 bits!
1 April 2013 at 11:40 am UTC

I will never play a "retro is over card" because I think all types of graphical styles will stay relevant forever. What I am fed-up with is 90% of indie's go for puzzle games and platformers...they are to me getting tiresome.

Quoting: HamishNo offence, but there are so many love letters to 8 and 16 bits from the Indie community that all other games are getting jealous. ;)
Indeed am I the only one getting a bit sick of "omg retro!" graphics and gameplay?

Quoting: FoHInxile got a free license for Unigine for Wasteland 2 but went with Unity due to better tools. Makes me think that Unigines pricing isn't the only downside.
I've heard their engine's scripting is really bad.

Quoting: RazZzielIs there any way to legally run OpenMW without the original CD? I'd love to upload a free version to http://www.portablelinuxgames.org/
No, you need the original files it's just an engine for the game.

Steams March user survey is out, Linux goes down!
30 March 2013 at 4:17 pm UTC

Quoting: MbitThe solution to these figures are that both February and March are compared to January.
Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64 bit wasn't shown in January so it is up +0.13% in February compared to January and up +0.17% in March also compared to January. Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit was at 0.43% in January, so it is up +0.28% to 0.71% in February compared to January and up +0.04% to 0.47% in March compared to January.
No idea why they would want to do it this way though...
Thanks someone also explained this on reddit, it does certainly explain why the figures look so off.

I agree I've no idea why they would do it this way, very odd.

I just wish they told us how many people these statistics where taken from.

My honest opinion is that we shouldn't read into it too much since no one really knows how the survey works.

It's a survey after all it's never 100% accurate, It can't be unless they counted as close to 100% of their user base as possible, but it's not, it's a small section of their users they survey.

Infact they are borked, take this for example:

This Month: Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64 bit 0.13% +0.13%
Last Month: Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64 bit 0.17% +0.17%

How can this month be lower yet be +0.13%, the survey this month just isn't right or last month wasn't right or both.

Another

This Month: Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit 0.47% +0.04%
Last Month: Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit 0.71% +0.28%

Again how can this month have a +0.04% increase yet again actually be lower.

Something just isn't right, unless I am looking at it completely wrong that is...

I mean it's possible that overall they are less against the rest (the rest being all other Linux, Mac and Windows) but still have more if that makes sense?

Hmm that is very odd you are 100% right, it seems there may be an issue with the survey itself.
