Retro FPS Ion Fury getting an Aftershock expansion this Summer

Yeah! Great news. IF was one of the very few games that I pre-ordered, and it absolutely payed off. Gonne get this one for sure, too!

(The only thing I fell across is that IF seems to use the same user directory for configuration as eduke32, and their settings aren't compatible :( )

Quoting: Liam DaweUh, no. They're also not a Steam sale site. They sell keys for GOG, Steam, Epic, Uplay and even the Nintendo Switch on top of all the regular bundles for games, ebooks and all sorts.

Oh, I wasn't aware they now even sell GOG keys!? That might make them interesting again to me.
But TBH, they lost me as a customer already quite some years back, even though I had been a strong supporter from their very first days on...

Quoting: whizseGoogling the error message from your original message leads to this post with the following suggestion:

"It is the demo1.dem in the pak2.pak that is causing problems in BengtQuake and DarkPlaces. For now, add +map start when running, or just extract everything except demo1.dem from the pak2, then get rid of the pak2.pak."

Might be worth a a try if you prefer darkplaces.
Whoah - tanks for digging that out for me. Tried the "+map start" which got me a bit further, but eventually it died with the same error. I might try removing the demo files, but need to read up about (un)packing PAK files first...
Not a big deal though. I'll use quakespasm for this one for now and stay with DP for the rest. Might even switch to QS, if I like it better. The choice for DP I did many years ago, and never re-evaluated

Which engine? Works fine here with quakespasm 0.93.2.
I'm using darkplaces (darkplaces-rev20140513-1.301.x86_64). Will have a try with quakespasm...

Yes, indeed, with that one it works.

Aaah Quake! Still a favorite for me. So I wanted to try it, but starting it fails with

Quoting: tuubiDoes any developer sell GOG keys directly? I just checked the sites of a few indies that are available on GOG and all I can find are either Steam or Itch.io widgets, or direct links to the game pages in stores. Maybe GOG doesn't allow this, or makes it harder than it should be?

I've seen Kickstarter pages that promise digital versions on GOG or Steam, so somehow it must be possible. Might indeed be more complicated then...

Quoting: CorbenDang, I missed the Kickstarter campaign. But I bought the game through their website, so the dev gets a bit more money.

But looks like they only have Steam keys there? At least I saw no mention of GOG...

First world problem, I know - but for a 15-inch I definitely would want a WQHD screen. I have one on my 14-inch Lenovo, and won't to go back to FHD

The Linux distribution I was most thankful for in 2020 - EndeavourOS

Quoting: theghostSounds like I have to tinker with Tumbleweed again :)

Absolutely! Like others said here, it's one of the largely underrated distros (underrated mostly from people that had issues with SUSE some 20 years ago... )
There's basically only one thing you have to remember, that is add the packman-essentials repo to get the non-free multimedia stuff. Apart from that it is rock-solid. That especially includes zypper, the package manager. I still have to hit a dependency situation it isn't able to handle, and I have machines with 15-20 different repositories active.
But I should stop here, as this is a thread about EndeavourOS

Quoting: theghostI really liked and used Antergos a long time. I would really like to use EndeavorOS as successor but unfortunately they replaced the installer of Antergos with Calamares. But Calamares offers no option to encrypt your hard drive in combination with an unencrypted boot. The only two distributions which offer this are Ubuntu and Fedora. So I will stick with them.
It's possible in openSUSE, too (with custom partitioning). And Tumbleweed is a really great choice if you are looking for a quite up-to-date but still rock-solid rolling release....

As for EndeavorOS - never heard of it So the article is greatly appreciated, I'll have a look at it at some point!
