ARK: Survival Evolved is currently broken on Linux, water apparently fixed and ARK: Aberration released

PsychojauHi everyone. May I share another point of view with you ?

I'm working on an UE4 project. Since I've updated to 4.18.1 (I will try with last patch 18.2 but don't have big hopes), I can't even load the Editor with Vulkan (crash) or calculate the Lightmass (swarm agent crashed). okay, that's not perfect either on Windows where you can have nice BSODs when making the lightmass....
The real problem is the bad Linux support from Epic.
Do you know that we can't even use the launcher to download / compile some plugins for the editor under Gnu/Linux ? Oh, and if, as an example, you want to buy some trees or dungeon walls to an artist on the marketplace : too bad ! You can browser with your regular browser but not download ! You need the launcher !
I don't care about compiling (even if it's time consuming) but f**k ! They say they support Linux but it's not entirely true !

I understand your frustration but maybe Ark devs are not the culprit here... (or maybe they are, I don't know of course)

Thanks GamingOnLinux ;-)

You're not entirely wrong about that, I started my project with UE4 back when it was paid, and a while after it went free I moved on (after the initial attempts at Vulkan support)(currently using Godot 3). They said they would support it, but look at what all has been done since those empty promises. Sure, some ppl can get their projects to run in linux with it, but as you said yourself. The required tools for their platform still do not work and much of what does work is cause of the community putting in the effort to port it. Early on, the ONLY way you could even touch linux with it was to use the community version. Far as the dev's go, well. I don't know the details of their project, Only that they have deemed it acceptable to offer support for a platform their project is obviously not running on as 'intended'. With the updates and some varied methods, other projects have gotten theirs to run on linux is all I know.

*sighs*

Yup, time to punish the aliens with the new artillery

I wouldn't expect anything from them myself. They've released 2 DLC's and yet they've not done anything to resolve the issues. At this point, I would just attempt a refund if possible and move om.

I think they've entirely missed the ball here, given the suspected price range. It's not a good value/buy.

Really live the game so far, but it has a long way to go on UI/Quality of life....

Wish it was finished, EA is such a pita. I miss the days when games came out complete :p

Just One Line, a fantasy gamebook-like RPG has Linux support

Cell shading is reasonably timeless if not the most attractive or detailed style. I think it'd make a nice present for my old lady, if only it were not still in EA. ~~

I think I'll wait till the big patch. It doesn't really add anything of substance.

Steam now has a form of platform-specific wishlisting, to help developers see demand
7 December 2017 at 12:03 am UTC

Ah, had to pay attention after the first glance. I've had my platform set to linux for a while now, so in short it means I should wishlist games without linux so that they show up for the publishers? or whoever has access to the steam account I guess. Well, guess I actually have nothing to do ~~
