Microsoft is rumoured to be looking to buy Valve, EA and others

ShmerlAnd regarding exclusive releases - this dumb and insulting approach should die out already. Normal game creators should strive to increase their reach, not to insult users by excluding them.

And not just that, but outside of the gaming industry the concept is completely preposterous. Just imagine: "Daewoo signs exclusive contract with Lionsgate Films for timed exclusive movie releases only to compatible™ Daewoo DVD players."

Have you heard about netflix and region-locked content?

tmtvlMicrosoft have proven themselves to be rather decent towards Linux as of late. They also haven't blocked Minecraft from opposing platforms, so I don't think there's much to worry about no matter who they decide to buy out.

Decent how? They're only interesting in server tech and they're just promoting themselves with FLOSS. Also, the new client doesn't support linux.

Buying steam would be anti-competitive. People know that steam targets mac and linux too and probably for this acquisition they'd get a fine and ms would be forced to split up. Remember: after the IE vs Netscape case they needed to bribe many people to survive. They can easily bribe the authorities in the US but not in the EU(except in Munich).
Anyway, if they're planning to buy a gaming company that's weird to hear - not so long ago they acted like gaming is not important for them at all. But they may have realized how that's one of the most important pillar of windows. That would explain why they want to seal PUBG...

QuoteFor the next development cycle, we can look forward to things like Direct3D 12 and Vulkan support, OpenGL ES support to enable Direct3D on Android and plenty more.

Wayland support would be very welcome too. It's time to start switching to in KDE.

KDE devs don't care about nvidia and nvidia doesn't care about xwayland so, no wayland for the majority: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics

PsychojauHi everyone. May I share another point of view with you ?

I'm working on an UE4 project. Since I've updated to 4.18.1 (I will try with last patch 18.2 but don't have big hopes), I can't even load the Editor with Vulkan (crash) or calculate the Lightmass (swarm agent crashed). okay, that's not perfect either on Windows where you can have nice BSODs when making the lightmass....
The real problem is the bad Linux support from Epic.
Do you know that we can't even use the launcher to download / compile some plugins for the editor under Gnu/Linux ? Oh, and if, as an example, you want to buy some trees or dungeon walls to an artist on the marketplace : too bad ! You can browser with your regular browser but not download ! You need the launcher !
I don't care about compiling (even if it's time consuming) but f**k ! They say they support Linux but it's not entirely true !

I understand your frustration but maybe Ark devs are not the culprit here... (or maybe they are, I don't know of course)

Thanks GamingOnLinux ;-)

Have you seen the complaints from the windows users on ark's steam forum? Or the numerous bugs and crashes the devs cause after each update? Even if UE4 is that garbage, the devs aren't innocent at all.

What are you playing this weekend?

I'd play Dying Light on my new PC with an AMD GPU but oops mesa.

ysblokjeFantastic, nice to see they are still growing the game. Now if the game would actually run on something else than ubuntu 16.04, I might actually enjoy it....
FYI Archlinux + Mesa is a no-go with this one

I use arch and nvidia and I can run it. I read somewhere that DL now runs on mesa too but don't know where.

Also, word of warning: when I've installed the extension I've lost my Harran Military Riffle what I've crafted from a golden Advanced Military Riffle. I know I can make a new one but it's still one of the most expensive/valuable/rare weapon.

These challenges are way too hard(especially with below 60FPS) and what you get in exchange is pretty much nothing. The "Rise of the Phoenix" involves speed running and if you don't have a high-end GPU you won't have 60FPS and you won't be able to complete it because the timer is set for 60 FPS. It doesn't matter if you don't make mistakes while doing hard-tier challenges because the timer will lie and the support will send you away if you try to report it.
