Aspyr Media are getting a little help from Intel for the long-delayed Linux patch to Civilization VI

TeodosioThis is NOT the way to support GNU. I would take Proton over this one hundred times. I hope Firaxis will do the work in-house for their next game.

Well, this is about a game's Linux port, not about its GNU port...

TemplarGRPerhaps support for amdgpu and radeonsi would be fine as well. IIRC CIV VI has no official support for those drivers at all and there are a lot of serious issues with the port when attempting to run them on Linux using MESA...

It doesn't help that the ports of Civ V and Beyond earth are BROKEN and crash constantly...

I am very dissappointed with Aspyr i don't remember a single port from them without serious issues. Especially when those games become older, they tend to break in many ways... I just hope Civ VII port goes to Feral...

Same for me, their ports are usually worse than running games on wine with no extra config. The performance of their ports are terrible but the worst thing is the constant crashes and glitches. Civ5 constantly crashes for me on ubuntu(!) just like civ6 which doesn't even work properly(black screen at leader dialogues etc.).

KimyrielleI guess Aspyr is no longer really a porting house, so I can soft of understand why that's no longer a priority for them. I hope Firaxis will work with Feral in the future, or - god forbid - actually start multi-platform development in-house.

Well, some of feral's ports are better than most native linux games so I'd just trust the porting to experienced developers instead. Proton is also nice, I've a lot more options now.

QuoteImprovements to alt-tab and fullscreen behaviour in many games.

I keep seeing this but it just gets worse and worse with witcher 3.
Have you reported it to the GitHub?

I didn't because I can't always reproduce it. I don't know what causes it.

TemplarGRBest news since Proton was announced! This means playable Skyrim at last! My favourite game of all time!

Skyrim is playable on linux(with wine) for a very long time. I'm playing it for 2 years.

Just don't do any quests that involve going underwater.

Why? I did that many times. If you refer to the non-transparent water issue then it can be solved with a config change - it affects windows too.

For you. Many people, myself included, have serious sound issues and those sound issues also break scripting.

Have you tried using the latest ubuntu?

For those on NVIDIA, the 396.54.05 driver seems to have some noteworthy performance improvements

I haven't experienced any FPS boost with the witcher3.

What are you playing this weekend?

Dying Light, Shadow of Mordor and Skyrim. Just ditched ps4 for pure linux gaming and with proton it's so much easier now(flawless skyrim experience)!
