I hope the final game works better than the prologue: it always crashes during startup. From a look at the Steam discussions, I'm not the only one with this issue. Had to switch to Proton to get it working.

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

BrisseAnd again speaking of Metro Exodus. Apparently they have decided last minute before release to ditch Steam and become an Epic Store exclusive. This actually pisses me off 1. because eff exclusives and 2. makes Linux release seem less likely and 3. those stupid enough to pre-order are being screwed over.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/01/28/metro-exodus-becomes-epic-games-store-exclusive/

whoa this is pretty nasty....

QuoteThose with outstanding pre-orders will receive Metro Exodus as expected on their store of choice, but publisher Deep Silver are sweetening the deal for Epic Store customers a little by cutting the US dollar price of the game a bit. Annoyingly, Euro and UK prices remain the same.

Bah, the game will be back on sale on Steam in 2020 (see https://steamcommunity.com/app/412020/discussions/0/1743358239849378663/). Since I never pre-order, and like to wait for the bugs to be ironed out (and the eventual GOTY / director cut / redux edition), Wine/Proton and my hardware to catch up, I'm happy to wait.

A warning if you plan to play Gonner with a keyboard: no support for rebinding controls.

FaugnI wonder what's the process for whitelisting games... It does not look stringent enough: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition is whitelisted, yet it crashes on startup for me, and according to the ProtonDB entries, I'm not the only one: https://www.protondb.com/app/234080

AMD and Mesa?

Because it looks like running for Nvidia.

Yep...

What is your gpu and Mesa version?
Proton:Beta (3.16-5)
Distro:Arch Linux
Kernel:4.19.8-arch1-1-ARCH
RAM:16 GB
GPU Driver:4.5 Mesa 19.0.0-devel (git-c0de7c21a3)
GPU:Radeon RX 580
CPU:Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz

If you are using selected Proton version for all titles instead of game specific selections, that can be the issue.

SteamPlay settings-Third box - Uncheck

I actually don't have it checked, how do you know which version of Proton is effectively used by a game when it's not?

From that list.

https://steamdb.info/app/891390/info/

It shows which Proton version got it whitelisted.

OK, so it should have been using 3.16-4, I'll re-install and try with 3.16-5 Beta.

Nope, same crash with 3.16-5 Beta.

Rain World... Another failed Kickstarter. It's because of projects like this I don't back games anymore.
