Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port again

By - | Views: 71,493
Were you alarmed that Feral Interactive didn't have any new Linux ports listed on their radar? Worry no more, as a new UFO (Unidentified Feral Object) has appeared over Linux.

Here's the new teaser from the radar:

For those that can't read it, it says "FORT DU KREMLIN-BICETRE". The picture is of Maggie Simpson from the opening credits of, you guessed it, The Simpsons.

Just be aware this doesn't mean it's coming soon, it could be many months away, but it's still exciting to think about!

Does anyone have a clue? Go on, open up in the comments. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: elbuglioneToday, i think skyrim for Linux (Vulkan version), have not technical problems to be a real thing. the only real problem is absolutely "commercial thing"

I wonder if it's "commercial thing" though. It looks like some ideology rather than business. Just think of DOOM: from what we can read, the game was developed with portability in mind, a perfect candidate for a Linux port, probably with little work. And yet no Linux port. If Bethesda doesn't want to port it themselves, there are a few companies that can do it for them.

It is not that just they don't want to port it to linux they are outright hostile to linux.

Quoting: Luke_NukemThe games I *really* want are;

Doom 2016 (sod it, I want the rest of them idTech powered games from Rage onwards)
The Witcher 3
Skyrim
Cyberpunk 2077

Rage works perfectly fine under wine/playonlinux with the asterisk if you have an nvidia card.

I know. Wolfenstein (new ones) also run great, as does Skyrim. But I want official ports. Mucking about with multiple steam installs is a right pain in the arse.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80I think Witcher3 is highly unlikely. They announced that they're done with Witcher3 and get fully focused on Cyberpunk 2077.They're also abandoned Linux GOG client project.Which is why i buy my Linux games from Steam only. There are some people who said 'I buy my Linux games from GOG because it's drm free.'Well, they completely abandon and dislike Linux community. Why should i buy from them, instead of Valve?

I agree, Valve has really pushed Linux gaming forward in the last few years, while GOG has completely ignored Linux. It feels like I've been waiting an eternity for the GOG Linux client, and its still one of their highest rated feature requests. Therefore I don't buy any games on GOG and get them on Steam instead.

I checked around I can't find any news stories of them saying they are giving up they have three new linux games this week. I know they abandoned Linux port of Witcher 3. Valve on the other hand have fired over half of their Linux support team hopefully they are not changing focus but they have form they abandoned Steam machines and throw vague resources at Steam OS. Gabe Newell completely ignored any and all questions about Linux in his AMA.

Valve didn't abandon the Linux community, actually at last two months they're very interested with Linux.

Valve assigned developers to focus on Amd Mesa drivers. You can find it on GoL.One for the gathering list of games which didn't work or works broken with Amd Mesa drivers and start to fix them, the other one is they hired another developer for Amd Mesa which this developer works previously on Nvidia open source drivers.

They already did major updates Linux Steam Client and also they provided latest graphics cards compability for SteamOS recently.

Gabe Newell didn't answer any questions about Linux/SteamOS at AMA because there was so many questions(nearly 1500),which most upvoted queetions generally answered.Since most of the people don't know anything about Linux,Linux related questions couldn't get so many upvotes.

Of course if a game comes with triple platform support,GoG will sell it.Since developer make it compatible, why don't sell this to other platforms?

In your opinion in my opinion he deliberately avoided linux questions because he did not want to answer them because he knew the answers would not go down well. Also I should of said not completely abandonded Linux but for me people white knight valve for basically no reason of course they fixed the client its how they make money.

What you except him to say?

Before Steam comes to Linux, literally there was nothing.Which Steam came to Linux in 2013.In these past three years Linux gaming is grown more than ever. That's not very possible to overthrow leading gaming platform Windows in just three years.

Valve leads and tries to aim developers for Vulkan now.Which is way better and promising than OpenGL and a real competitor to DirectX.With Vulkan SteamVR is gonna be available for Linux.

GOG didn't give a shit about Linux. For example;Witcher 1 and Witcher Adventure game has Windows+Mac support but there is no sign of Linux versions of them.

For me;buying from GOG just pointless. You will be buying from a shop that wishes you to disappear from his shop, never to return.

What i wanted Gabe to say was we are working with other publishers to bring the best games to Steam for Linux and deliver on previously promised games. GOG continue to publish Linux games though yes they have not gone back over there older games I think they would point to Witcher 2 sales figures on Linux to say that is why there is no Witcher 3 on Linux. Now i now Witcher 2 port was bollocks and it took ages to get playable.

Failing valve managing partnerships with other triple A studios like EA for example, how about actually being serious about Steam Os and take it out of beta already put some marketing cash behind it so people other than Linux hardcore users use it. Loads of PC gaming mags here in the Uk use Steam os as a punch line so perception needs to change before some publishers will talk about porting to Linux.

Would love to get a native port of Hitman. Can't think of anything else it could be.
