GOG staff state that Galaxy for Linux is being worked on, but still no ETA

Right on and spot on. This is the course of action me and my pals too now practice with this. Valve and Steam will benefit accordingly. GOG should put more effort on Galaxy for Linux already.

The soul of GOG are the DRMFREE games and not the galaxy client...
I don't want another Steamlike client infecting the gaming world.

I use Flareget for to download big files from GOG on Linux...
for my Windows machine I use ye olde GOG downloader.

I'm sure you know this, but there is an open source GOG client for Linux. It's lgogdownloader. It's a CLI downloader for GOG games. Personally, galaxy or not, I'll prefer this. I can run it on my headless file server to download updated versions of my games without having to add bloat to my gaming machine. I don't really have a need for all the other "features" clients like steam or galaxy offer. I just want to download/update the game and this does it.

I'll admit, lgogdownloader isn't perfect, but it is simple, lightweight, and honestly, probably more useful to me than a client like galaxy. Note if only there was a steam variant, lol.

lgogdownloader kicks much ass, and is the reason I won't be using Galaxy on Linux any time soon. It's open source, lightweight, and does everything I need it to do.

Regarding the games on GOG that are lacking a Linux port, when a Linux port is available elsewhere, there is a page in the GOL wiki for that:

Stop GOG advertaising.
There are not Linux friendly.

Man, people getting riled up over the galaxy client, what babies. More important than some stupid client to access games is the lack of games being packaged for Linux on the website. How many Dosbox wrapped games are there now on the GOG website which don't have Linux packages? The Galaxy client isn't going to magically fix that problem. My bet is that EA is blocking their catalog from non mac/windows platforms. That's a far worse problem than the Galaxy client missing.
