Rebel Cops, a turn-based spin-off game from This Is the Police is coming to Linux

Posted by , | Views: 5,524

Announced only recently by Weappy Studio and THQ Nordic, Rebel Cops will pull out the turn-based strategy element from This Is the Police and create a game out of it.

The XCOM-like strategy layer appeared in This Is the Police 2 and I actually quite enjoyed it. I adore turn-based tactics anyway, so hopefully it will be nicely polished. Turns out it's coming to Linux too, as confirmed by the developer on Steam:

Sure, it will support Linux, as always with our games :)

They also said the Linux version will be available at launch. Now that's out of the way, check out their brand new announcement trailer below.

More about it:

You're always out-gunned and out-numbered and low on resources. Your team is driven, not by beating the odds, but by the will to hunt down crime lord Zuev and to restore justice in Ripton, and is fully prepared to sacrifice everything in the process. The need for more weapons and equipment can be satisfied in any of the sandbox-missions. Besides the main goals, like rescuing some hostages or eliminating a henchman of Zuev's gangster squad, each mission has optional side goals as well as many parts to explore where your cops can find useful equipment.

But beware: every step you take is a risk. Rebel Cops is an unforgiving game, as every bullet can end a cops life. There are no hitpoints, even if your trooper is just hit in the foot, he can bleed out. So make sure to guide them safely through each encounter - the more experience they get, the more skilled they become.

They said it will be "$9.99 / €9.99" (and so presumably £9.99) and it launches officially on September 17th, with around "15 hours" of turn-based tactical battles to go through.

You can follow/wishlist on GOG and Steam.

A turn-based tactical sandbox? I'm intrigued. $9.99? It's wishlisted.

So many snarky things to say about the theme. "Just like real life except none of the real life cops decided to take the people's side" or, contrariwise "So, you play a gang of terrorists trying to overthrow the government".
Might get it. I like the reputation thing.
