Reminder: Update your PC info for the next round of statistics updates

Posted by , | Views: 4,196

This is your once a month reminder to make sure your PC information is correct on your user profiles. A fresh batch of statistics is generated on the 1st of each month.

You need to be logged in to see when you last updated your PC info!

You can see the statistics any time on this page. For those who didn't notice, we also fixed the trend charts.

If you want your details to actually be included in the monthly survey, be sure to head here and tick the box labelled "Include your PC details in our Monthly User Statistics?" and hit the "Update" button at the bottom, it's opt-in and you can uncheck it at any time not to be included in future statistics gathering.

PC Info is automatically purged if it hasn't been updated, or if you don't click the link to remain in for 2 years. This way we prevent too much stale data and don't hold onto your data for longer than required.

We are looking to adjust the Wine question and add in a Steam Play/Proton question - opinions welcome on that.

"When was the last time you used Wine and/or Steam Play to play a Windows game?"

Either something like that, or two separate questions to differentiate between those who (like myself) pretty much only use the Proton version and only extremly rarely use Wine in the classical sense and those who only use the classical version as well as those who make regular use of both.

The Wine thing is still not particularly useful as it is. I now had to switch to "in the last month" because I tried both Fortnite and two games in SteamPlay Proton. But on a whole my Wine usage is still best described as "incidental" and hasn't really changed. Wouldn't it be better to have something that shows how often you have used it in recent history? Maybe "Have you used Wine or Steam Play/Proton to play Windows games much in the past six months?", with options such as: never, sometimes, regularly, daily.

Still no way to enter multi-GPU setups. What about a button called something like "Add GPU" which gives us another row like "GPU-2 model"?

In the last month I went from Intel+Nvidia to AMD+Nvidia, then I got RX 580 which I returned because it was too expensive, then the Nvidia I had died on me yesterday and last night found a Vega 56 for the same price I had originally bought the RX 580 just a week earlier haha. What a month! Finally on the AMD only team though

This is actually a nice idea

That's great.

Happy AMD user here.
Last Nvidia card was a 6600 GT.
Never looked back.

Could it be relevant to add something about Proton in the survey? Or is Wine considered the same? Just a question.

Oh! Sorry! My bad! Missed the last line! I was reading diagonnally. Doh!

Edit: My proposition:

Do you use:
[check box] Wine
[check box] SteamPlay
[check box] Both
[check box] None

This way, you will be able to compile the results of each answers. This said I like Ehvis' proposition about the usage frequency, but it might make things complicated with my proposition and I'm not the one who's programming the survey, so...

Edit 2: You might also decide that SteamPlay is a Steam feature that should not appear in the survey (just like BPM desktop doesn't appear in the DE question) and keep the Wine questions for Wine only. Still I would modify it with Ehvis' frequency proposition.

Since Proton is so closely related to Wine, why not just rephrase the question from "Wine" to "Wine / Steam Play"?
