Seems like Feral Interactive may have a few surprises for Linux in 2020

Porting studio Feral Interactive [Official Site] have already given Linux a lot of games and it sounds like more are coming.

While this year they've already released Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, a Vulkan beta for Shadow of Mordor, Total War: THREE KINGDOMS and DiRT 4 plus big updates/expansions to Company of Heroes 2 and Total War: WARHAMMER II. Still to come is Life is Strange 2, which Feral previously teased to arrive sometime soon.

After that, we already know Feral is porting Total War Saga: TROY but what about more games, is that the end of it for Linux? Going by their replies to people on Twitter, like this one "We may have a few Linux games planned for 2020... ;)" they seem to indicate there may be some surprises for us next year.

That's good news of course, since Steam Play/Proton was an obvious worry that they might stop porting. There's tons of games that are completely broken with Steam Play and plenty that perform really badly that Feral could certainly do their porting magic with. Actual support would be good too and Feral certainly know what they're doing.

What game would you like to see Feral port to Linux and support?

ShmerlTo be honest, I prefer original studios to do the porting, this way there are no gatekeepers who decide where something is released - original owners can decide.

Once Linux is treated as a normal platform, there is no need in porting houses.

Plus less likely diverging code bases, release dates and support for cross play.

Yes, in house support is just better.

I think bigger game changer for the situation is not Wine/Proton, but Stadia. With Staida around, we can see more and more studios starting picking up Linux development. And why shouldn't they be doing it in house? Once they have in house expertise and want to release for normal Linux, then the same people could do it. I.e. they won't need to outsource.

In such landscape, for Feral it's better to refocus from porting and publishing to consulting studios on Linux development,

Seems pretty unlikely, but Halo: MCC would be great. A few years ago that might have been crazy, but Microsoft has been porting a lot of their software over to Linux recently.

I actually do not know if stadia games are ported to stadia or Linux native from the start.

I still believe our problem is the support costs for a small market share.

If anything, costs of porting in house should be lower than costs of outsourcing it, as long as the goal is to make a good quality result of course. The later is usually done if there is no one to work on that internally.

leillo1975Being realistic, I would like to see ported by Feral the last 3 Codemasters games:
-DIRT Rally 2
-F1 2019
-GRID (2019)

Please Feral, make it possible!

Leillo: go buy a car and offer you a licence on a race circuit for Christmas
no more total war or car games (excepted if it is a easy plus for feral)

tpauCyberpunk 2077 would be a nice thing.

I think we can rule it out given prokect red hatred of the linux community as a whole entity but yeah it would be nice to have

Likely for very different reason - they are already working on it for Stadia, so why would they need Feral for it? It clearly means they hired Linux developers for the project.

interesting but i wouldnt bet on it being on linux but is it actually on stadia because at one point linux was getting witcher 3 then they changed their minds capcmo was going to bring out Street Fighter 5 and Monster hunter world to linux and it didnt happen if stadia is doa which i expect it to be i dont see those games coming either.
