The future of the Friday Livestream and my other GOL work

By - | Views: 12,571
Just to make sure that everyone is getting an unreasonable amount of big announcements today, I am making one of my own concerning the Friday Livestream and the So I Played... (previously GOL Cast) articles.

In the following months I (as in me, Samsai) will be somewhat busy. As some of you might have already heard, I will be learning the art of modern warfare in the Finnish army which means I will end up spending quite a scary amount of time away from my precious keyboard. When it comes to GOL, this means that I will be unable to cover any games in detail and my livestreaming schedule will also be distrupted.

The first two weeks of the service in particular will require me being at the army base 24/7. Thus, for about a month, Liam will be taking over the weekly livestream, so be sure to check that out and teach him the proper Friday Livestream manners. After the first couple of weeks of basic training are done I should start getting weekends off, but I cannot really guarantee that I can get home on every single Friday. But, based on the approximate time the weekend leaves start, I should be able to once again participate in the weekly livestreams after a couple of weeks of basic, either as a co-host or fully take over the stream once more. Even then some streams will likely end up being hosted by Liam or they will be skipped entirely, but I'll make an effort to do them whenever I have a chance.

I am giving up on articles and reviews for the whole duration of the service, which can range from 6 months total to about a year, so my usual reviews are going to be absent. This probably isn't a big deal, considering how much I've been lagging in the recent times as it is. I will be hanging out on the IRC during weekends and possibly on my off hours, so you'll still find me there, it's just that my work will not really appear on the website itself.

The actual service begins in about a week, but I am spending the last week of true freedom on a summer cottage so this is a practice week of sorts for Liam to get used to my absence. In fact, he will be doing his own Friday Livestream today! The stream should start at 7:45 PM UTC today, so slightly later than the usual 5 PM UTC. Make sure to check your timezones!

Keep in mind that this is no goodbyes or whatever. It's a temporary limitation and I should be fully back in action at some point in 2017. I'm already scared of the size of the backlog of games I will have! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.

Quoting: reaVerIn the Netherlands there's voices for a Nexit, in Denmark there may be a Dexit. So Samsai, is your country working towards a Sexit? :D
There's a joke going around that it would be called a "Finish". However, that nonsense isn't happening if I can prevent it.

I didnt know Finland still hade those rules, in Sweden we are suddenly to "good" for having army training at a serten age : /.
So if Russia for some reason want to attack us, its good to know atleast Finland have our back, I hope :P.

OK, after a brief shock I realized this is just an away message for an unusual duration.

In the words of PTerry: Mind how you go!

Quoting: liamdaweFirst Brexit and now the GOLEXIT, my world today has been crushed. Send help.

I actually thought that it was your post, Liam. Then I was wondering how upset you must be about brexit to sign up for the Finnish army. :)

Well I have been in the army for 2 years and 2 months at the age of 18 and I am still going to the army 3-4 times per year for training as a veteran :P

I have seen and done things that normal people wouldn't do. :O
Sometimes I even refused orders from my Commander.
Almost go to jail for that but after the commander realized that if I shoot I would kill many innocent people.
He just simple thanked me ><

"Where the logic stops the Army starts" is just a slogan we are saying here in my country.

Good Luck Mr. Samsai!

I was one of the boys who were responsible to make shots on these "small shooting cars" :P
