As mentioned in my last article talking about the Steam Hardware Survey, Valve sometimes adjusts the numbers a few days later. They have again and this time they adjusted the Linux market share on Steam down, not up.
Seems Valve really are trying to do a big push to get Linux graphics drivers up to scratch. Last night Pierre-Loup tweeted about a new hiring and the name might be familiar to some.
This is quite interesting, here we have the slides from Valve's GDC talk on porting over to Linux. It makes for an interesting read and lays it out very simply for the non techies.
Writing on the official blog the developers have noted that L4D2 is still coming to Linux! Which is great news since it was supposed to be the original title!
Another push from Valve for Steam on Linux! We now have Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source (Beta)!
Today, Linux gaming takes a huge step forward as Valve have now officially released the Steam Client for Linux and so it's available for everyone to try.
After many didn't believe Phoronix articles about Steam coming to Linux, it seems they were right all along despite Valve stating before it wasn't happening.
So the rumour mill is at it again this time things are looking a bit more solid, but as always I am sceptical. Michael Larabel of Phoronix is again posting about Steam coming for Linux, this time showing off screenshots showing off Left For Dead 2 running natively on Linux, we all know screenshots can easily be fabricated though but I don't think Michael would go that far...
Valve claim that Steam is not coming to Linux despite earlier reports suggesting that it will. Hopefully it will eventually.
