Except ofc when I asked it to translate it from French to German and it gave me Rückzahlung which is not entirely wrong but IMHO should be Rückkauf instead, aka Rückzahlung is more like a dividend (which a buyback could be seen as by way that it keeps the share price higher than it otherwise would be and thus giving me as a shareholder more value even if I don't get a cash dividend in my hand) but my German is rusty :)
So automatic translations can do strange and confusing things...

Somewhat OT: deepl.com translated surprisingly well for me (English<->German).Could be an easier task (or deepl is simply better at this specific task), or we are not actually talking about a translation error but one of understanding. I simply assumed that the issue was with translation since I do not know French that well but now that I look into it further, every single translator program translates "buyback/redemption" to "rachat" and back and across various languages so perhaps I threw some dirt at the AI for the wrong reason (this time).

For the folk saying put multiple games on one card - I think that largely defeats the point of this. They're trying to recreate that one-game-one-cartridge experience. You can get a pack of five 8Gb cards for £25, and I think that's the idea here.
But I get it. £25 for 5x8Gb, or £23 for one 512Gb card... you'd have to be pretty committed to the idea to go all in on this!
I get the impression the dev doesn't care. They note:
And the comments here seem to agree with that!

Kazeta is definitely not for everyone. It requires a bit of work to get started, but I have been using it quite a bit the last few months and it has brought me a lot of joy. I hope it can bring joy to others as well.
And the comments here seem to agree with that!

The native Linux thing I can concede to.
That being said, I dislike online games, so it doesn't effect me in any way. If you need to rage about it, feel free ... but I still think it's ungrateful. They could have just killed the game completely. They didn't.

@Caldathras, you are either ignorant or lying. Not lying. I fail to see the difference. Call that ignorance if you wish. Either way, players get to continue playing after official support is withdrawn.

I love the idea!
But I share some of the concerns of other people here:
* Support of multiple games per SD-card is a must
* I'm not so confident that we have a lot of game launchers & scripts ready yet to support this idea. To make this viable you need a launcher formatting the SD-card correctly, optionally downloading the game and putting the game files in the correct folder structure for the script to use.
Curious how it'll develop and want to try it out once the idea has matured.

Hey, @Lofty. I can't argue with your points, they're all very good.and make sense. All I can give you is my reasons for feeling as I do.
1) Whatever old game we're talking about, I love that old game as it is. I neither desire nor need it to be modernized to current tastes in gameplay (with gamepad support being an obvious exception).
2) A lot of times, remastering means that the system requirements shift upwards as well (remakes are even worse). This is okay if you are the type that likes to be continuously upgrading your hardware. I'm not.
Let's look at Oblivion Remastered as a good example. On my current hardware, Oblivion GOTY Deluxe 2006 runs exceptionally well at peak settings. Fully modded, it looks amazing. Oblivion Remastered will not run on my hardware at all. The worst part is the drive space it requires.
Textures for large, high-resolution screens (4K +) probably account for the high storage requirements. I happily game on a 15" screen. 1K or 2K textures are more than enough for a screen that size. From my perspective, 4K+ textures are just file bloat that I find make remasters less appealing to me.
3) Don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to a remaster. I play and enjoy a number of them such as Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition, Age Of Mythology: Extended Edition and Stronghold HD, for example. It's just nice to see a developer showing interest and support for the older members of their catalog, particularly when they are over 12 years old. It likely shows that the game is still generating income for them.

I wonder if the genre is ready to move out of Vampire Survivors clone status to genre of it's own. Doom had similar influence on genre name before FPS started to replace Doom clone term.
Auto battler seems to be used also for otherwise different games, which happens to have element where you don't directly control the units.
Auto shooter seems to be used for some games in the genre. Bullet heaven is also used.
Halls of Torment was first game in the genre that clicked for me. The mechanic of just moving around and dodging enemies can be bit boring at first if you don't have any direction to go to. Halls of Torment happened to first one I played that pointed where two mystic objects were located and that was enough to get me hooked. I spent 45 hours with the game and updates might give good excuse to play some more.

@Caldathras, you are either ignorant or lying. That is anything but "player-hosted servers." They ditched any sort of server solutions in favour of P2P while killing previously functional native Linux version without a notice. They were greedy for asking $80 for skins at the sequel and lazy for not bothering to update the Linux version.

So true, I have so many GOG games and I have to document the installation process for each one, so I can reinstall them when the inevitable technological changes render the bottle broken.
This is basically the RPG loop though:
explore > collect > spend > improve > explore
I might even argue that the downloads section of Steam and downloads of Linux distros basically gamifies this like a casino and gives a dopamine hit which addicts the users to the improvement loop ;P
FTA, I think the dev was partially frustrated with navigating game menus. Thus the multi-game per storage kind of goes against his current method for simplifying this.
Theoretically, all storage will keep increasing in density and you could fit 1024 Petabytes on something the size of a SD Card. This seems like a case where a cigar is just a cigar and not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. In the days of CD / DVD there was always leftover space on the optical discs.
If i was going to critique the concept I probably start with the lifespan of SD cards, but if they were read-only then it would be a nominal issue at replacing the SD card when they get burnt out. Or I might critique the read speed of current SD card readers compared against other storage options.
But you know what? Minor issues, I think an idea like this could gain serious traction, I would definately be up to collecting physical media, however SD is a little too small, make it Sony Mini Disc size and we got a deal ;P
Also, this is supposed to be the future? Can we at least have proper cold storage like 3D laser inscribed crystals or something instead of just chips with binary.

If you have problems launching and closing games on Steam you will never get through „grabbing” anything from GOG or any other store.
So true, I have so many GOG games and I have to document the installation process for each one, so I can reinstall them when the inevitable technological changes render the bottle broken.
I LOVE the idea, but I don't need ANOTHER wall of plastic with pretty game box art on it.

Please let us put like 20 games on 1 SD card tho.
FTA, I think the dev was partially frustrated with navigating game menus. Thus the multi-game per storage kind of goes against his current method for simplifying this.
My issue is the apparent waste of storage space. The most commonly found SD card sizes are 16GB and up. What a waste of space for an old game that only requires 500MB!

Talk about ungrateful, @AsciiWolf. The developer went out of their way to ensure that players could continue playing the game with player-hosted servers after they ended official support. They could have just shut down the main servers and said tough luck. They didn't kill the game. Instead of acknowledging this as a good thing, you just unfairly accuse them of being greedy?

Every thing I wrote in my earlier post is 100% correct, a board cannot authorize a take over, it can only give it's recommendation for or against. It is the actual share holders that have to authorize such a move by selling their shares or not, no one can force them to do it. And the fact that less than 20% of the Paypal shares are free floating (aka not held up by long term investors) so a silent takeover is not possible, the holding structure of Paypal is public information.
Or as in this case when you unfortunately have been given incorrect information from an automatic translation service. I can see that you still don't believe my but if you go to the link that you provided yourself and simply click on the "Voir l'original" button so you get the English original press release that have this text and headline : "The Board of Directors of PayPal Holdings, Inc. has authorized a buyback plan on February 4, 2025."
I hope this settles the matter?

I'm afraid you're unfortunately a troll. I don't know what your interest is in spreading false information, I find it sad. I'll leave you to your conscience...Sorry to disapoint you in that every one that does not agree with you is not a troll. My interest is in spreading correct information since I always see people being slightly confused on how the stock market works and how stocks / public companies works, having worked for 28 years in the financial market (as a software developer / systems architect but still) have given me some experience in the matter that I am more than happy to share with any one interested.

As Julius said, a passion project. My issue is the apparent waste of storage space. The most commonly found SD card sizes are 16GB and up. What a waste of space for an old game that only requires 500MB!
Smaller cards can be found, but they are either overpriced or of very questionable 3rd-party quality and reliability.
I'm with @Linas and @BigRob029 on this. Allow the installation of more than one game on the SD cards and this has more potential.
That being said, Steam, Lutris, Heroic and many other launchers really do offer this experience already, without locking down an entire computer system to a single purpose. @Stella makes a lot of valid points.

Well part of the benefit of a remaster is two fold.
1. They usually migrate to a newer engine and as such give the game a much greater chance of surviving against bit-rot something Linux is quite prone to (natively). Meaning the only path left is to emulate inferior versions on ancient consoles.
2. They place the game back into the public's consciousness & purchase history. Meaning it's less ethical to pull the game of of online stores if you and tens of thousands of other people bought the 'NEW' game only a few years previous.
This game was released November 13, 2012 ! at some point a minor patch ain't gonna be enough.
Remasters no matter how cynical, do potentially give you another 10-15 years of relative software compatibility imho.
