KDE has definitely grown on me over the years. I typically avoided it because it was always so slow on my laptops. But I had slow laptops to begin with. When it comes to my gaming laptop, I go with Gnome but on my Desktops, Gaming rig, It's KDE or Cinnamon. I love it and really appreciate how far KDE has come.

I've loved this game series since 2, I've played all of them. But I won't be pre-ordering 4 anymore, I don't like it and don't want the base game to be only a part of the full game, if you want to play the full one you still have to pay exorbitantly much more, maybe with a discount I'll consider it, but there are so many fun games nowadays I'd much rather pay a reasonable price for a reasonable game than what I'm paying now.

Now, enabling Wayland in the Proton build would be the next frontier. Not defaulting to it, mind you; just enabling it in the build so you can turn it on one-by-one as a launch option.

You may want to test a few more games to ensure it isn't that particular game that is bugged and its the gamedev which needs to fix it?

You already CAN use Proton outside of Steam. There's nothing actually stopping you, there's nothing enforcing it to run from Steam or anything of the like.
The only thing preventing it from wider use outside of Steam is the relative lack of third party launchers that support using Proton.
Heroic does support it outside of Steam now, and I believe you can use Umu as a launcher from Lutris.

For a short, exciting moment after reading the title, I thought that Valve was letting players use Proton outside of Steam.
That would be something I'd put next to the adverb finally.

I was seeing so much confusion from people across the board, even nerdy people like me at the 'Available for Windows' notice. Even Tomshardware, who recently blogged some Linux gaming, had no idea this toggle even existed, and they've been using Linux for 25 years. I even had to show a friend how to enable the global compatibility on Steam for all titles. So glad to see this is a thing of the past now. Or at least with the next Stable update, it should be

Bedrock exists because you can't run Java on consoles. Java version still exists because there's a deep history of modding and Microsoft knows that killing off the original will anger a large part of the fanbase. If they could get Bedrock's modding capabilities up to Java spec, that would allow them to kill the Java version.. but.. that's not possible because Microsoft needs to exert a certain level of control over the Bedrock version on consoles:
If users used copyrighted material (e.g. a Mario skin) they'd be held liable. If users changed Creepers to walking penises, they'd be held liable.
It's really a no-win situation, but they're doing the best they can.

For Godot only one comes to mind: The Duck Detective and the Ghost of Glamping. Major graphical glitches. One thing of note is that on the 550 drivers it stutters a bit when glitches happen, which makes it seem like frames are presented that weren't meant for displaying.
On Unity it's actually quite common. The worst is Learning Factory, but it happens on every 2d game. For instance the new Kathy Rain 2.

News - Nexus Mods is under new ownership
By Caldathras, 17 Jun 2025 at 5:56 pm UTC
I mentioned this article to my wife this morning. Her response startled me but I should have thought of it myself. To her, it sounded like, after 24 years, Robin decided he wanted to retire, found someone that willing to pay the amount he wanted for that retirement, and sold it to obtain those retirement funds.
We have been seeing that happen a lot around here, with businesses that were often a mainstay of the community collapsing and disappearing after the original owner removed themselves from the picture.
Sometimes the new owner just seems to see the purchase as an investment that is supposed to generate returns without hands-on involvement. The business inevitably fails and a great community asset is lost.
By Caldathras, 17 Jun 2025 at 5:56 pm UTC
Or have I missed that time when he offered the modding community the opportunity to take over the site and have it managed by a non-profit?Why didn't Robin do this?

FPS: Can't do 'em, so nope.
Multiple DRM: Even if FPS games didn't give me severe vertigo, this would become the other reason to give this one a pass.

Yeah, it's really weird to frame the post as a passing of the torch when it really is a business deal. It's the owner's right to sell, sure, but what I don't get is the spin attempt. I get the need for it seeing who the new owner is, just not sure why it's the now-previous owner doing it.

Could you provide some info on which games? I make heavy use of Godot (hobbyist game dev) and did not yet come across any of this. Primarily I am interested in Godot here any if it affects older version of Godot like v3 or also recent versions.
By Vortex_Acherontic, 17 Jun 2025 at 4:34 pm UTC
Doesn't look like this helps the issues I have with drivers above 550:
1. Screen tearing in VR headset.
2. Grey/white flickering in 2d games in at least Unity and Godot. No issues in 3d games though.

From the 'Chosen' website:
> We partner. We amplify. We conquer.
Is it just me or does their slogan sound kind of like "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish"?
Also, a lot of imagery of what seems to me like black holes which you could say only take and give nothing.
But on a serious note, this doesn't make sense to me. I understand being burned out and wanting to pass the torch, this part is completely fine. But transfering ownership (or selling?) to another corporation? Saying you want to be transparent but not even mentioning that new company? No actual introduction and you ask the community to support them?
I would've expected Robin to hand over the reigns to someone who has been involved with NexusMods for years (maybe one of "40 incredibly dedicated people, some of whom have been here for over 9 years") if he really wants the site to continue on the right path.

I've had the unfortunate experience of software being sold to new owners several times and in most cases it was for the worse, once I even lost all my data when the Aegis 2FA app on iOS wanted to push people towards subscription right after buying it and bungling the code. In my mind I blame the original authors as much, though, because there's no way they didn't know who they're selling it to.
