From what I can find the Win10/DX11 results are very close to the Linux/OpenGL looking at Average FPS:

Take his benches with a bucket of salt, Why on earth he cant just use the actual score that the bench produces is beyond me.

1080's are averaging 4500 in windows. mine is 3225, so like I said, not even close.

Need to see the score as to determine how Phoronix and everybody elses stacks up, Showing the average is only part of the benchmark final score

I got Dirt Rally from Humble Bundle. Was pleasantly surprised about how well optimized it is. You can really turn down the graphics, even to the point of replacing objects with sprites. I managed to run it on my modest Quadro K1100M at 1600x900 on medium settings at 30-35 FPS. Can go up to 60 FPS if I really don't care about the looks.

That's not amazing, I know. But for somebody who never owned a proper gaming machine, this is perfectly playable. In comparison I can only get around 20 FPS from Mankind Divided at 800x600 and all options on lowest.

well, I seem to have a different view on CSGO, unlike most people here.

first of all: it runs fast like hell. I have no game that runs that good as CSGO does. besides that valve-typical sound-stutter when you click some stuff (like making a match selection, or changing some settings), it runs smoothly in any way.

I use it with steam controller and I am surprisingly good, mostly within the top players on public servers, not even that rarely on #1 with most points/kills/assists. Can't believe it myself, although I am surely not talking about ESL like skills, I just play this for fun on my TV and kick ass pretty much often.

Crashes? Maybe one in a week, having several hours of gameplay. Mostly it just returns to the big picture mode. I am playing this on steamOS.

Cheaters? zero. can't say that I have ever ever seen one. I don't even know about VAC not being available.

Sound is 5.1, works superb, even the music volume levels some complain about.

But yes, there is one issue: I have the distinct feeling that valve puts low priority on this game with linux or at least steamOS. There are bugs I can't remember right now, that are related to steamOS<>controller<>CSGO, which is surprising to me, since this game is known to work better by fps on Linux than on any other OS, including windows. Honestly, I am a little afraid that this source2-port or any work with vulkan won't see a day1 release on linux.

Just ran it yesterday evening on 1080p extreme preset. My machine got only 1100-somthing score, whereas HexDSLs machine (nearly exact same hardware, same gpu, same driver) got over 1500. Only difference so far was, he uses Antergos and I still use Ubuntu 16.04. So maybe this was another coffin nail for Ubuntu.

Well you did have a different CPU, not sure if the Intel Xeon E3-1231 is comparable in speed with the Intel Core-i7-3770 at the same clock.
There is not much detailed information about the hardware, the MB RAM speed, Craphicscard RAM speed, PCIe speed etc could be different as much other things that could have an impact.

It sure would be interesting to see different distributions compared on the exact same hardware, and similar software that could impact the speed, like the kernel, graphics driver, compositor etc.

I do use Ubuntu 16.10, I might install some other distributions on free partitions, especially if someone else shows a big difference that can not be changed without changing distribution:-)

We are happy because Arch is awesome. Nobody compared Arch to Debian or said Debian is not good. If it is also solvable with one command, Debian users should be happy too.

To be honest had a small panic that I got the RX480 4gb card instead. I ran Doom again and it told me 8gb and with this made me feel a little better. I upgrade to 4.11 RC6 and got a score of 1472. It would have been nice to see a Vulkan API there since I think would have been better.
With Doom I found out that OpenGL is a big burden on your cpu compared to Vulkan that is much less of one. I really do hope that Unigine puts Vulkan API in down the road would be nice.

It means it has rogue like elements so basically perma deaths etc but with various elements from other games is ziggaurat is a fps mixed with a rouge game so its a rouge like.

Interesting review (contains swearies). I might skip this one for now, perhaps pick it up on sale. Some of the reviews coming out from trusted game journalists aren't the most encouraging. But It's easy to get excited with nostalgia and colorful modern graphics, especially if your platform doesnt have many titles like these. Glad they supported SteamOS/Linux though.

This won't solve the problem, though. I guess Valve didn't update the .deb on their website with the latest version.

This comes from the fact that the Open source drivers are compiled against a newer version of the libraries present in the runtime.

Try to launch it with:

STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam
Then, update steam (opt into beta branch if necessary, I've been staying there for more than three years :P).

You might need to install some libraries to launch steam, though. Another way of fixing it is to launch
 find ~/.steam/root/ \( -name "libgcc_s.so*" -o -name "libstdc++.so*" -o -name "libxcb.so*" -o -name "libgpg-error.so*" \) -print -delete
Then restart Steam. Not the cleanest way, but I used to to it regularly before having the steam-native option on Arch.

I agree with the others, though. You should install only one graphics PPA. Probably x-swat, as it should be more stable, but you might choose otherwise (I am not using Ubuntu, so I don't have much experience with those PPAs).

Rogue was an old ASCII adventure game. It had randomly generated rooms and focused on exploring said rooms. Modern Roguelikes tend to have procedurally generated levels, enemies, and weapons, as well as permanent death.

There is so many Minecraft open source clones, it's a bit sad that no one reached feature parity; It feels like dispersing the efforts. Oh well, it's the same as Linux distribution. And, Open Source Will Prevail let's not forget it's cancer! (Quoting some Ballmer guy). Given enough time, these projects will likely grow a distinct personality. And they are probably around to stay.

Probably the driver is too old? I run SteamOS too and I see no issues, but I install latest drivers myself.

Actually some games should already be working with 367 it was on steamos?
I have now beta running 375.26, and even that doesn't change a single thing...
