Quoting: lejimsterI can't afford much, but it's my way of supporting the gaming effort on Linux. If the site does well and attracts new users to Linux, this is going to have a snowball effect; more games, better drivers, better support.

So a small amount goes a long way. Great site Liam, I visit it daily. Keep up the good work.
Thank you as well :). It doesnt need to be a lot, as little amounts from more people do add up :)

Mesa has a patch from a Valve developer to help ARK Survival Evolved run on the open source drivers

QuoteI know people and likely some Mesa developers are opposed to having more game-specific bits in their drivers, but this is about getting the game to actually run, not about hacking around performance issues.

Wellll, it seems like this is extensible though. I mean, it's meant to fix this one game, but it looks like it could work for any game that had some kind of weird OpenGL version requirement--once you've got it working for ARK, you could easily add other games to a list or something, right? And there's bound to be more of them, so.
Likely, yes.

Personally, I think it's damn important for end-users to get a good experience. I don't think users should have to deal with setting special launch options or dealing with any kind of hack to get a game running on Mesa. It's nothing but a nuisance. Most users don't give a frig about the politics inside the drivers, they just want the game to run.

Quoting: RussianNeuroMancerI don't think this is good idea. Wouldn't it will be better to ask game developers fix their engine?
It's always better if a developer fixes their game properly, but the problem is most likely won't. We are a tiny market in most developers eyes, Mesa even more so in comparison to NVIDIA proprietary (proof of that here, 73% are NVIDIA). NVIDIA likely has something like this built-in already, which is why it's only an issue on Mesa.

Quoting: RussianNeuroMancerI also pretty sure someday they will decide to update their engine, probably require higher OpenGL version, discover that Mesa for some reason report 3.2 to the game while support 4.5 or 4.6, they could make another workaround, instead of fixing thing right way, or straight declare Mesa as unsupported driver.
If ARK does ever fix it, then it would be a very quick patch for Mesa and they could then remove this, so it's not really an issue.

Anyone who is found griefing will be banned of course, like with GOL, it's designed to be a good community of gamers. That said, playful PvP is obviously allowed.

Quoting: Crazy PenguinNice! Another Space-Sandbox. It looks like StarMade gets some serious competition.

"it took 2-3 minutes to slow down from full speed which caused me to fly into a repair station and boom"
Liam, you know that you are in Space and it takes time to slow down, right? :D

It helps to have more thrusters with forward-facing surface area on your ship:

Can't you just flip and face backwards to decelerate, like in all those interplanetary-hard-SF stories from the old days?
Yes you can, if you have good enough turning speed.

Quoting: FishticonI WAS excited for this but now it just seems like the web-based GDevelop app; which is already there, free, and great.
I don't even see how this is different, other than it costs money and doesn't have a desktop app.
Any time I've tried GDevelop it was gosh darn terrible. The guys at Scirra actually have people making fully-fledged commercial games with Construct 2. It's actually a very good and powerful tool with a good interface. Construct 3 seems to be even better, and we get support, so what's not to love?

What about Godot mate ?
FOSS :)
Completely different type of tool, this uses an events system, not a script system. I think that's what people are missing about this tool. It services a different market.

Quoting: liamdaweWhat settings would people want changed, if you can tell me the exact settings I can tweak them all a little, not too much though.

i'd say, 3x for taming, exp, gathering would be fine. over that will make the game too simple.

and i vote for the Center map
Map will not be changed now, as a bunch of people have already started. More than happy to change the map on our first wipe though.

3x taming speed has been put in.
