Developer of 'Steam Marines' talks sales, Linux represented 2% over the lifetime of it

Quoting: SangreDeReptilOn a related note, by reading all the comments I had an idea (that I'll post here so that you can Like it if you agree): what about giving these communicative developers a special badge, like the "GOL Supporter" and the "Contributing Editor" ones? Not only it would be a gesture of respect for caring about our community, but also it would be easier to find the developers' responses among the huge number of comments in articles like this. It would only take a single mail to verify the identity and that should be enough.
We used to do it, but removed it, can't remember why. I just added it back in and enabled it for them :)

Aspyr Media seem positive about Civilization VI for Linux according to their recent tweet

Quoting: SgtRomeo9I'm just very curious to know what exactly it is about CivVI that is so difficult to port to Linux that they haven't already ported to Mac? Is this really a technical issue or is this more an issue of skills?
Every platform has its own set of issues, drivers perform differently on every platform and have their own platform-specific issues to work around.

There's a lot more to it when you're dealing with projects as big as Civ to say indie games.

@WorthlessBums, great to have you here :)

I would like to comment on a point you raised here:
Quoting: WorthlessBumsEstimating is hard. I'd like to address the entire "2% is really good because we're 1% of the user base" argument. Not every game on Steam has Linux support. You'd expect the average number of Linux sales to be higher than the average percentage of Linux users, per game that does support Linux. If Linux was 10% of Steam's userbase but there was only 1 Steam game with Linux support you would not expect that game's userbase to be only 10% Linux users; the Linux users are simply flowing into fewer games than Windows users are. That said the Mac percentage numbers are low as well - maybe I'm missing something here.
I don't agree with the argument that Linux having less games, means each game will have more sales. We are still normal people with limited incomes, so we won't buy literally everything, we still have to pick and choose what games we are interested in to pick up. Just having less options, doesn't mean we are likely to buy more, it just means we have less to choose from (and in certain genres like this, we have tons), I don't see it any other way.

I do very much appreciate the fact that you will continue to support Linux, don't let the minority of bad attitudes sway you to walk away (you get them in all communities, just the Linux community is smaller so bad attitudes can be a bit louder).

@Leopard that's a really bad attitude to take. They specifically said they will continue to support us even though it's not financially worth it for them. Your attitude undermines us, especially with smaller developers.

The thing about SteamSpy, is that you shouldn't entirely trust their data. I've seen multiple reports of it being way off. Just something to think about when quoting numbers :)

Transport Fever released with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts
8 November 2016 at 3:02 pm UTC

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTWhy would you compare the game that much with City: Skylines while it's the successor to Train Fever? It looks to me almost the same - even though the gameplay might be more advanced.
They are both simulation games centred around cities, I have not played Train Fever.

Edit: Also I don't know why you're saying it like I compared every aspect to Cities, it was a passing mention in the opening...

Quoting: GuestDoes Alt+Tab even work on Linux? I've never had any luck using Alt+Tab with full screen games so I stopped even trying. I guess I'll give it a shot with a few other games and see if it works there, may have been an issue with X-COM and X-COM2.
Works fine for me, for games that don't allow it and you're using Steam, you can just bring up the Steam Overlay and then do it, works fine :)
