Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Chaos Rising and Retribution released for Linux, port report and thoughts

@wolfyrion what compositor are you using? Sounds similar to an issue I had with CoH2 when I was on MATE using Marco or Compton, worked fine with Compiz. I suspect that's part of the issue.

Quoting: syxbitMac doesn't have Vulkan. Unity can only export Vulkan to Windows.
Mac doesn't have Vulkan, correct.

Unity can export Vulkan to Windows, Android and Linux, it's literally quoted in the article.

Quoting: pete910Can someone explain why cross platform seems to cause problems? Is it engine specific ?
Their reasoning was linked to in the article already:
QuoteNote: Sadly, like Company of Heroes 2 these games do not support cross-platform multiplayer with Windows. Important to note, as this may be a deal breaker for some of you. You can see their explanation of why this is the case for CoH2, which likely applies here too.

'Osiris: New Dawn', a graphically impressive multiplayer adventure and survival game coming to Linux

Quoting: TakI don't get why "+1" is spam or unhelpful.
Developers usually say things like, "We'll look into supporting Linux if there's enough interest." Why should everyone write an essay just to indicate interest?
Steam's own rules I'm afraid.

'Niche - a genetics survival game' released with Linux support

Thanks for the comments guys, crazy to release such a game without even hinting at any of this. I know some games have an element of figure things out for yourself, but more complex games like this need explanations.

Quoting: EhvisDeus Ex performance will be interesting indeed. Unfortunately Feral is tight lipped about the possible use of Vulkan. They did do a news post specifically about metal with "You can't kill progress" in the title. What they didn't mention (and nobody on twitter asked) is whether the port does DX12 -> Metal or DX11 -> Metal. If they did the first, then their knowledge of DX12 should be pretty good and Vulkan would not be too hard to do. Anyway, more patience is needed before we know if progress is not killed for us either.
Like I tell people when this comes up, I don't expect Feral to use Vulkan until later next year. If they were using Vulkan, like with Metal it would have already have been announced.

Avoid the pile-up in 'Clustertruck', a first-person platformer with day-1 Linux support, it's great

Quoting: KimyrielleI think in terms of numbers we're more than fine now. These days, the more interesting number is indeed the % of top selling games available for Linux as quality trumps quantity. Not sure where you got the 8/10 from, but when I look at the "Global Top Sellers" list in Steam, we're not quite at 80%, even when counting Arma III (which AFAIK has an unofficial Linux port) and Civ VI (which is confirmed for Linux, but doesn't show the Linux tag in Steam).
Also, don't forget that the top 3 publishers in terms of top selling games aren't even on Steam (EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft). To calculate an accurate % of all top selling games for Linux we'd probably have to include them (although I personally won't shed a tear about never seeing one of their games on Linux.)
I said top 10 played, not top selling: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

Quoting: tmtvlI wonder how many of the "x most played games" are available on Linux...
That might be a bit more of a thing than pure number of available games.
I added a bit about the current top 10.

The third beta of FREE FPS ‘Ravenfield’ is out, the game keeps getting better
27 September 2016 at 2:01 pm UTC

Quoting: PicoboomI haven't tried this yet, but I loved the Battlefield series on my Xbox 360, and BF3 remains one of my favorite PVP games.

As I understand that setting up a server for a game is no small cost, so I can understand the lack of multiplayer for Ravenfield at this stage of development. But I have hope that eventually the game sees enough success to add more maps and Battlefield-like team multiplayer options, all the while maintaining the delightful toy-like look the game has now.
You could just release the server scripts and let people run servers themselves, that's generally what people do to keep costs down.

Having a master server list doesn't need to expensive either, a cheap server that receives pings from the servers setup and displays them.

All quite easy to do, in theory.

The hard part is making the actual multiplayer, dealing with sync and so on.
