SteamOS 3.8.6 Beta brings expanded handheld support, initial HDMI VRR for devices with native HDMI output

Fixed an issue on certain TCL TVs where the display may remain blank using the Steam Deck Dock
Interesting. I'm having an issue that fits a similar description. I just picked up a refurbished Samsung Odyssey G9 95SC curved ultrawide. The max resolution is far beyond what the older m.2 JSAUX dock can handle. I managed to get it to flicked on momentarily with the desktop being a bit torn up.

I'm wondering if it was why the monitor was replaced in the first place. The TV OS / UI works perfectly fine. Tomorrow I'll try doing a multi input and try to get it to only use half the screen for the Deck at FHD. Then I might order a new dock, maybe not specifically for handhelds, just something that has the i/o & display capabilities I now need. 😅

I'm wondering if I can use a DP & HDMI from another dock into this monitor and configure it to displah half and half. Then, I'd really be like having two monitors in one. lol

Maybe I'll go beta, too. 🤔

Are the devs from Brazil?

Oh sick. I used to play Children of Mana all the time on the N3DS. I never looked into the rest of the games. Never knew there were so many. lol

Expanded AMD HDMI 2.1 support is coming to Linux

Quoting: vic-bayThat's why we need intellectual property laws to be improved, so entities like HDMI cartel shouldn't have control over software implementations. You produce physical connectors, take your $0.99 and get lost, from people writing software support for it. It is twice as bad as it should be, as not only HDMI cartel doesn't write software support for Linux, but also forbids others to do it. What's the point? To make the world a worse place? This is plain evil.
What perse said.

Yes and I think that's a good idea. Since people who already have installed it probably don't need newer Kernels. But new users might need it. This makes perfect sense.
Aye. It does. I think distros should be doing this on a monthly basis. A user shouldn't have to install 1-3GB of updates during install... especially if there are more than security changes to the kernel or drivers because, as the post states, that has a practical affect on hardware performance or if something will work or not.

You make it sound like having more PB&J sandwiches is a bad thing.

I’ll tell you right now that it is not.
Fair. I do often either way. It's one of those wonderful cravings and allows for a little creativity. Triple decker with cinnamon sprinkled on the bread? Crushed/sliced/chopped nuts? Alternative to peanut butter like almond butter? Frrsh fruit? Dried fruit? What bread is available today?
🤤

However, it's also really nice to have a fat veggie heavy sandwich or cheezy panini. Something hot, grilled, with more vegetables and some protein.

I agree that it would be nice if it worked OOB like a regular controller across platforms, or had some way to configure via a QMK UI.

The only two features I'd really like to see are:
• RGB LEDs behind/around each key that I could customize.
• spinners around the thumb sticks like the Atari Gamestation Go has.
• bonus: small or full width screen attachment. Double bonus if it has a speaker or two.

I think additional grips and skins will be readily available via third parties.

Though, I'm not sure why Valve doesn't have fun cashing in on a great variety of these. They could easily enough deal with publishers for limited edition artwork on controller covers and such. They ought to be shipping things like this out to other retailers, or set up for them to handle things behind the scenes and ship directly themselves.
(lulz at the hyperthetical Good Old Games skins)

Hey, where are the GOL [Dbrand] skins‽ Would anyone else rep the cool penguin dude on eir Deck, Steam Controllers, or anything?

Stickers that say "Yes, I am GamingOnLinux" would be really fun to put on a laptop. 😉😉

Also, I have four of the original Steam Controllers. Two of which have never been opened. 😋

This is the funniest part. Whose age should I set on the fridge? Mine, or the yogurt's? 😆

Anyway it's nothing particularly new. When I set up gmail accounts for my kids, I just added 10 years or whatever, so they don't get blocked from accessing stuff and I don't get pestered with requests for permission or whatever. If I installed such age-requiring OS today, I would do the same.
Well, the yogurt is the one actually using the fridge. It's merely in your house. I think the next question is: how does the age of the bacteria translate into human years?
