For an anti-social person who only added some friends by accident and is now bothered with being notified about this and that, this is a welcome news!

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is officially coming to Linux, port from Feral Interactive

Loved the 1st game and have been keeping an eye on the prequel ever since it came out. So glad to see it is coming to Linux, thank you Feral!

Indie FPS 'Ballistic Overkill' updated with a rework of TDM to finally fix base-camping, also Steam Workshop support

Tried this updated TDM yesterday, first impressions were quite good. I play BO regularly and the ability to go everywhere in TDM (like in Free 4 All) felt refreshing. I haven't spawned behind an enemy nor did anyone materialised behind my own back. Will see in the long run, of course. Pity I still have frustrating lags most of the time

Playing Quake 4 on Linux in 2018

mirvCheers for this Hamish! I still occasionally go back to play Quake4. Just a good solid shooter, at least for me. I think last time I cheated and ran it via wine, where I had far fewer problems (and felt kind of dirty), but I might give native a go again next time and try some of the suggestions here.

I'd write exactly the same for myself.

The fun and cheap online FPS 'Ballistic Overkill' is on sale with 50% off right now

BO is the very first game I play with my son. Most of the time, we end up in opposite teams. Most of that time, I end up dead if we meet I keep complaining about lags, but he plays on the same network and nails it almost every time. Then, after a game, he scolds me for how bad I was

Ballistic Overkill updated again to improve matchmaking and auto balance is back

So... I've tried it out, took some time to get to a game, also got killed through walls more than usual. On the other hand, the games I got into were intense, with each ending up pretty close, so the team were really better balanced. Can't say more right now, perhaps just that cranes in Overhead were speeding up during one game until their movement became rather comic

There's another 'Life is Strange' on the way

This is great news. I immensely enjoyed the first parts of the game, especially the first 2 episodes were incredible. The more it became a butterfly-effect-like story though, the less comfortable I felt. That doesn't necessarily mean it was bad, just not how I would prefer the story to unfold. I would still recommend it to anyone and would definitely love to see a sequel.

Ballistic Overkill updated as promised with Vulkan, but it's now completely broken (UPDATED with temp fix)
17 May 2017 at 1:35 pm UTC

It does work for me with the workarounds from the top of the page. As most other people, I couldn't start the game after the latest update and so I went straight to GOL, hoping to find more info here. Sure as hell I did find it! Hopefully, they're gonna fix this soon, the scale of the issue suggests very poor testing routine (for Linux at least).

Ballistic Overkill to get Vulkan support tomorrow and lots more

If they were able to fix the lags somehow, I'd be more excited. The game can be very frustrating if you get get shot through walls or by player who's not even facing you. Other than that, I already had almost 60hrs of fun with this game, much to my own surprise

I wonder though if there's anyone else with bumblebee for whom the game would become almost unplaybale due to FPS drop since v378 of nvidia driver. I was only able to resume playing by disabling bumblebee and the integrated graphics :/

NVIDIA 381.22 driver released with lots of bug fixes and newer Vulkan support
10 May 2017 at 12:18 pm UTC

With the 378 driver, Ballistic Overkill dropped to barely 30FPS when running with optirun/primus. After two weeks of frustrations, research and playing with configurations, I gave up and disabled bumblebee altogether. Then, with only the dedicated graphics enabled in xorg.conf, the performance increased for more than 400%. That's a very frustrating development as I prefer having switchable graphics. I'm very eager to try the latest drive tonight to see if things have improved for me.
