Hyperspace Delivery Service is a very retro looking strategy and adventure game coming to Linux
13 June 2018 at 2:55 am UTC

As someone who should appreciate this retro phase, having cut my teeth on gaming in the 80's and 90's, I'm not getting this retro craze at all. I mean, we have thousands upon thousands of actual games from the 80's and 90's to play on Linux in emulation. Somewhere, I have a 2.2 gig or so file of the entire Amiga gaming canon. I'm just not getting the point of new/old gaming titles. Can someone explain this to me?

System76 have announced a new Oryx Pro laptop model and it's a bit of a beast

I am using (and gaming with) the prior gen Oryx Pro at home and can't say enough good things about it. I see it as more a mobile desktop to take around the house. It's built like a tank, has a great keyboard, oodles of ports, has a great screen, is easy to access and add SSD's and memory, and it's a guaranteed "will work" with Pop OS or any Linux distro. System 76 has been great with support when needed...

Quoting: razing32Hmm. Multi only ?
I would prefer being able to host my own server and play with friends vs bots.
Or just shoot some bots at my own leisure.
Think I'll pass on this.

So, wait, this is the anti-Ravenfeld essentially?

Quoting: rustybroomhandleI vote we add a 'no more DRM "debates" in article comments' rule to the TOS so we never have to endure this tedium outside the forum again.
Seconded...

The developer of Helium Rain gave an update on their sales, low overall sales but a high Linux percentage

This is something I've long wondered... Are there stats for what percentages of an average game's sales come from early access and what percent come from full release? I'd think that the people most interested in a title would go in for early access, but maybe I'm wrong....

Quoting: GustyGhostIt almost has the same exact stylization as Astrokill.

As a frequent player and fan of both games, besides the fact they are in space and may share the same engine, these two titles are absolutely nothing alike. They conceptually are different, play different, and look different. For Astrokill think of a lush, mission-based, Freespace 2-like shooter with fast action, big explosions, and more degrees of freedom. For Helium Rain, it's a more relaxed and nuanced game, with rich graphics and Elite-type sandbox game style, with an economy and the goal of buying and building your own company and fleet.
