Mojang rolls out Player Chat Reporting into Minecraft Java
1 Aug 2022 at 11:20 am UTC Likes: 12

Ah, yes.
"Hatespeech" aka "someone was mean to me on the internet" aka "please protect me from different opinions voiced strongly" aka "I'm sure this will never be abused" aka "whatever those in power deem to be unacceptable at this point in time, to be changed later, this is totally not a slippery slope, trust us". :dizzy:

Anyway, Minecraft really isn't the platform to insist on being some kind of free speech platform, given the target audience.
In fact, I'm all in favor of moderating chat there.

However, that should be up to the server you're on, not globally managed by Mojang.
Mojang should only provide the tools to do so (including a common database of known offenders), should the admins desire it.

Of course, I don't know if I ever used chat in Minecraft (usually when playing I will be in some voice session). And if I did, certainly not to just randomly swear and insult people
I just do find it funny how "hatespeech" has become this sledgehammer argument "I don't agree with this and feel offended, therefore this is hatespeech" thing and can't help but laugh about it.

Hobo Cat Adventures features dark humour and souls-like combat - now on Linux

The dancing diaper squirrel got me.

However, I don't really see anything there that reminds me of Dark Souls combat - looks way too fast-paced with insta-gibbing enemies.

Reminds me more of Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Quoting: EhvisI despise lock-on systems. This is something for controller play, not for MKB play and I hate that some games feel that it is necessary to force it on MKB players.
Lock-on solves the problem of having to manually move the camera around all the time.
To instead have it look at what you want to look at 95% of the time anyway: the enemy.

There is no connection to controllers, I use it all the time (in games that have it) with kb&m.
I don't understand why some people feel the need to gimp themselves when playing those kinds of games without target lock-on. But it's not really my problem lol

Total War: Warhammer III cautiously builds upon a tried and true formula

Quoting: lukas333I hope there won't be Warhammer 4 any time soon.
No way.
They now have all the known Warhammer world in one game. That was the end goal from the very beginning.

But not even all the factions yet, e.g. most people wager Chaos Dwarves will be added next. Then there is Ind, etc.
In other words, this game will receive new DLCs for years to come.

Just as a comparison, Warhammer 2 released five years ago and only recently had its last DLC.

Man, I have hundreds of hours in the TW: Warhammer series.
And they botched the release of WH3 so hard it's almost miraculous - such a surefire success ran into the ground without any need whatsoever.

Still, like most fans I am holding out for the release of Immortal Empires.
It's gonna be the definitive thing to play for years, and I have no doubt it's gonna be good. Eventually.

But like @BTRE I'd recommend holding out a little bit more, because the initial release of IE will likely be rough, even after the beta.
That is - very, very unfortunately - the modus operandi of CA.

Run around a cyberpunk city as a lost cat in Stray - out now

It's not a bad game, but be aware it has a length of maybe 6-8 hours.
Which is IMO quite low for that asking price.

Definitely more within the walking sim genre than anything else, but if you're into that, probably a good purchase.

Wine manager Bottles default runner now based on Valve's Wine fork and Proton

Quoting: Perkeleen_VittupääNever tried it but looks pleasant! I wonder if this makes Lutris more irrelevant
I think they do somewhat different things.

Although I'd also say that for most people using Lutris, Bottles could be a easier-to-use replacement.

Is someone who uses Wine called a winer?

ARK: Survival Evolved switches away from Linux Native to use Proton
11 Jul 2022 at 11:24 am UTC Likes: 16

Quoting: subImho bad ports are not an argument against native versions.
No, but they are an argument for developers who don't have the skill to make native versions (no matter how little skill that requires in the end) to instead officially support Proton.

This way, the game will actually get support on Linux.
Previously, looking at how badly broken ARK's port was for, well always, that was not the case.

The choices in those cases are not:
A) Good native version
B) Nothing
C) Proton support
They are:
A) Bad native version
B) Nothing
C) Proton support
