Valve has expanded the Steam Play whitelist to include DARK SOULS III and plenty more

Quoting: robvvI can't even get past the first boss in Dark Souls III. Clearly I am useless :-)

It's a pretty intimidating boss, especially if you haven't played the previous games. Dark Souls is that kind of franchise where you will have to learn from your mistakes and then repeat and repeat until you get it right. If it becomes too frustrating then there's some good online wiki's and YouTube walkthroughs to help out.

On a completely different note, the framerate issue seem to have a proper fix now. At least it's working on my end and I no longer have to use the previously mentioned hack.

So for those of you who are experiencing framerate drops after warping between bonfires in Dark Souls III, it looks like it's a VRAM issue affecting cards with 4GiB or less VRAM and this workaround seems to be fixing the issue. ^_^

Edit: A better fix was released after I wrote this comment.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleIf it is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, they better reveal it soon because they are losing sales in droves to Steam Play.

This is why Wine/Steam play is a double edged sword.

Wine has it's place for older unsupported software but I get the feeling that devs will make their game work in steamplay and claim Linux support. Which in turn will hit devs like Ferral as they will be deemed unneeded.

I still wont by a game even if it does work in wine/steam play well, the old saying "No tux NO bucks!"

In a world where 100% of all Windows games would run in Proton in a way that's 100% indistinguishable from running it in Windows...why would it still matter if the port is native?

Because that's what Valve wants to do.

When Valve inevitably moves gaming into the cloud and run games on Linux-servers, either native or Proton, even Windows users will be Linux gamers. There might come a time when platform becomes irrelevant.

Not that streaming games from the cloud will be feasible in a long time. Microsoft, Sony, Nvidia, Google, EA, Ubisoft and others are investing big in this area as we speak, but their initial offerings will fail because the internet infrastructure to support it doesn't exist and latency will always be an issue no matter how much they think they can mitigate it.

But yeah, there could come a time when consoles are just thin clients and the games are streamed from Linux servers, and at that point pretty much every gamer will be a Linux gamer even if they might not even be aware of it.

That is awesome that Dark Souls III made the list. Such a great game. Been playing it a lot recently (>100h), but to be honest, there's a performance issue that sometimes causes the framerate to take a big dip after loading screens and as far as I know it's not been fixed so I'm not sure why it's being white listed.

Quoting: evergreenI'd like to see giving priority on games that don't work on Steamplay. So my unrealistic wishes are:
Rainbow six Siege for me (Damn Battleye!!!)
Fortnite for my children (Damn Epic!!!)
PUBG for increasing linux statistics on Steam (Damn Battleye!!!).

Didn't Fortnite steal all the PUBG players? Anyway, those are both fad's in my eyes. Couln't care less about them.

Quoting: GuestIs there a page outside of those silly facebook and twitter social media to post our suggestions ?

Right here should be fine. I'm sure the good folks from Feral are lurking. The post above yours is from a Feral developer.

Quoting: BrisseHaven't really gotten into any of these card games (except The Witcher 3 minigame :D ). I was mildly interested in this as a potential entry point, but then I learned...

QuoteAdditional packs of cards will be $1.99, each pack has 12 random cards. You will also be able to buy and sell cards on the Steam Market.

...that it has gambling mechanics. No thanks.
In fairness, this is exactly how physical trading card games work. You buy packs of cards and get random cards inside.

I know, but that doesn't make it not gambling.

It isn't gambling because you always get something for your money though, this is how loot box type micro transactions skirt around gambling.
Legally speaking, sure, but spending money to get something that may or may not be entirely devoid of value to you, or whose value is essentially random within limits, in addition to being arbitrary and subject to changes made to the game, is hardly better than risking your money in a game of chance. At least in most games of chance, you can walk away with your money and your earnings aren't designed to keep making profit for "the house," unlike Valve taking a cut of every subsequent trade in this case and controlling your Steam wallet. Unlike WotC with MTG, Valve owns the entire ecosystem this game exists in. You may or may not get your money's worth in entertainment, but you will definitely not make any real money out of it. So I would agree that it is not gambling in that sense, but arguably it is worse than gambling.

This applies to every single purchase you make on your steam account though, you can't make any real money because you can't transfer anything on your account short of selling the whole account.

It is gambling even though it's using a loophole in most legislations. Countries like Belgium has actually started classifying it as gambling and I hope the rest of the world follow in their footsteps because things are getting out of control.

"you can't make any real money"
That is wrong. People trade digital assets, both on Steam directly and through third party's. Rare CSGO skins have been traded for tens of thousands of dollars.
