This is scary and exciting at the same time.
+ Platform and hardware no longer matters as long as it can run a web browser.
+ Linux gamers might get access to games they would never had access to otherwise.
+ Servers are going to run Linux. Potentially means more native ports will appear for those of us not streaming.
+ We got Proton and DXVK, which I suspect are parts of a secret Valve streaming project and only released in the Linux Steam client as some sort of icing on the cake.
- The ultimate DRM.
- Big corporations will have way to much power over the consumer.
- The internet will collapse under the huge bandwidth requirements.
- There will always be more latency even though some things can be done to mitigate it.

Cyberpunk 2077
Flushing Point is in New York City, which is the closest think we have to a "Megacity".
Image portrays a guy on a flying steed... there are flying vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077...
Its being published by Warner Brothers...

I used to be KB/M only for decades, up to a few years ago when I got the Xbox One controller and it's great to have a controller even as a PC gamer. For some games it's just better and it's nice to be able to lean back and relax your shoulders sometimes. Do I still play games with mouse and keyboard? Absolutely, but it depends on what type of game I'm playing.
One thing I would say about the Steam Controller is that it seems a bit niche. A lot of games are made with the Xbox and PlayStation controllers in mind. The Steam Controller kind of tries to create a keyboard and mouse replacement but that's not what I would personally want from a controller.

Valve has expanded the Steam Play whitelist to include DARK SOULS III and plenty more

On a completely different note, the framerate issue seem to have a proper fix [External Link] now. At least it's working on my end and I no longer have to use the previously mentioned hack.

Quoting: robvvI can't even get past the first boss in Dark Souls III. Clearly I am useless :-)It's a pretty intimidating boss, especially if you haven't played the previous games. Dark Souls is that kind of franchise where you will have to learn from your mistakes and then repeat and repeat until you get it right. If it becomes too frustrating then there's some good online wiki's and YouTube walkthroughs [External Link] to help out.

So for those of you who are experiencing framerate drops after warping between bonfires in Dark Souls III, it looks like it's a VRAM issue affecting cards with 4GiB or less VRAM and this workaround [External Link] seems to be fixing the issue. ^_^
Edit: A better fix [External Link] was released after I wrote this comment.

Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port, time to start guessing

Not that streaming games from the cloud will be feasible in a long time. Microsoft, Sony, Nvidia, Google, EA, Ubisoft and others are investing big in this area as we speak, but their initial offerings will fail because the internet infrastructure to support it doesn't exist and latency will always be an issue no matter how much they think they can mitigate it.
But yeah, there could come a time when consoles are just thin clients and the games are streamed from Linux servers, and at that point pretty much every gamer will be a Linux gamer even if they might not even be aware of it.

Quoting: KimyrielleWhen Valve inevitably moves gaming into the cloud and run games on Linux-servers, either native or Proton, even Windows users will be Linux gamers. There might come a time when platform becomes irrelevant.Quoting: pete910In a world where 100% of all Windows games would run in Proton in a way that's 100% indistinguishable from running it in Windows...why would it still matter if the port is native?Quoting: rustybroomhandleIf it is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, they better reveal it soon because they are losing sales in droves to Steam Play. This is why Wine/Steam play is a double edged sword.
Wine has it's place for older unsupported software but I get the feeling that devs will make their game work in steamplay and claim Linux support. Which in turn will hit devs like Ferral as they will be deemed unneeded.
I still wont by a game even if it does work in wine/steam play well, the old saying "No tux NO bucks!"
Because that's what Valve wants to do.

That is awesome that Dark Souls III made the list. Such a great game. Been playing it a lot recently (>100h), but to be honest, there's a performance issue that sometimes causes the framerate to take a big dip after loading screens and as far as I know it's not been fixed so I'm not sure why it's being white listed.

Rainbow six Siege for me (Damn Battleye!!!)
Fortnite for my children (Damn Epic!!!)
PUBG for increasing linux statistics on Steam (Damn Battleye!!!).
