EA / Respawn now block Apex Legends from running on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: Liam Daweand this is just on Steam - they will no doubt have a lot of console players too keep in mind.

I'm glad you brought this up because I would like to remind everyone: despite consoles being entirely closed source, they also have problems with cheating. They lump cheating software in with bug exploits and other nonsense, then blame it on Linux because cross-platform and their anti-cheat is ineffective.

Is it really that bad? I've read that several times and so far it has kept me from buying the game.

It's very maze-like, and I get the feeling navigation is supposed to be more intuitive with repetition, but I just can't do it. The puzzles (like finding switches to operate doors in other parts of the map) is a big task all on its own.

Here's a complete set of interactive maps to give you an idea of what I'm talking about

Quoting: pilkThing is, among all the other disgusting things she is, You-Know-Who is a known copyright troll that sues anything she doesn't like.

If that were true she'd have gotten rid of Hairy Pothead when it was published some 15 years ago. But now there are sequels.

Quoting: CatKillerI did really enjoy the Shadowrun games on the Deck, so I'd recommend picking those up to anyone that's interested. The individual games are in the sale but the trilogy bundle hasn't had that discount applied and so works out more expensive than getting the games separately.

Shadowrun Hong Kong has a couple borked areas. This one battle on a rooftop locks up my Steam Deck completely and I have to force a restart. It only does this after the battle is over and you go to exit the level at the elevator, but there is no save after the fight so you must redo it every time. I gave up after a half dozen retries.

Quoting: MacTavishMeanwhile the steam client still sucks on linux. When a new revamped Wayland native Linux Steam client?

I don't have any problems with it.. In what way does it suck?

I do have a really peculiar issue. Whenever I start Steam via desktop icon which has a
Exec=/usr/games/steam %U
line, the client will start but will only show the indicator which in turn apart from allowing to exit the client will play dead. When starting from the command line with
$ /usr/games/steam
it works as expected (as does Steam when installed as snap package).
I wouldn't say it sucks but it... has issues.

You should edit the desktop shortcut to include a command to log all output to a file on execution, that will help you narrow down the issue.
