Helena the 3rd The Grande Finale

By - | Views: 9,801
Our much covered favourite little indie game is nearing completion!

QuoteHelena the 3rd is now in the final production stages, we have started work on our final world (Lava
World). Lava world will feature fiery projectiles that will shoot from the lava bed. A new power-
up for our hero a rocket pack, which gives our hero a fun double boost to his jump. The final
showdown with our as of yet unnamed end of game boss.

The final world will be more FPS orientated to get the full use of our heroes new rocket pack. The
new special ability will also have a influence on how we will design the new levels, the new power-
up will allow the levels to be more platform based, which will also leave you quite vulnerable
jumping from platform to platform above steamy hot fiery lava.

image

We have also been working on a new hero model who will be made from sugar and spice and all
things nice, yes our hero will be of the female orientation. Along with the new hero model we have
been working on some new enemies and power-ups that will be distributed evenly between all
the worlds. We will be introducing a tutorial world that will introduce you to the fundamentals of
playing Helena. The graphics will be spruced up with anti-aliasing and we will be revisiting some
of the the other worlds to polish them up.

I have saved the news that we are most excited to tell you about till last. Upon the next release you
will be able to play co-operatively with your friends over the internet with tcp multi-play. Brandon
and myself have been playing this quite a bit lately when we should of been working on Helena.

:/ I wonder if people here on GOL are sick of this game by now, heh.

Maybe someday your favorite little indie game will get on your favorite new Linux store.

Hey, if you are on Linux, you should never get sick of hearing about a native game. ;)

Well thank you Hamish, I appreciate that. Man I might need to back out of the last part of that news. The co-op is kind of there, but really needs a lot more work before we could release it. Might have to come after the game is released as a patch. I am thinking about doing deathmatch though, since I think multiplayer car or tank combat on linux would be awesome.

Looking good! I think I've picked the wrong time to make Dirk Dashing 2 available... lots of other platformers coming out.

There are several games that were Wolfenstien/Doom clones, but Duke Nuke'em and Redneck Rampage (to name two) were more than clones because they each had a unique personality. Dirk is a game with a unique personality. Helena has an interesting blend of 2D & 3D platforming along with an FSP aspect to it.

They both have platforming to them, but they really are quite different. Helena & Dirk are really only going to be competing for the player's time.

Thanks, Eddward!

Yea I agree, I don't see Helena in competition with Dirk Dashing at all, very different target audiences. And any game on linux helps us all out in spreading the word of Linux being a very capable gaming platform.

Quoting: "Eddward, post: 1962"There are several games that were Wolfenstien/Doom clones, but Duke Nuke'em and Redneck Rampage (to name two) were more than clones because they each had a unique personality.

Well, Redneck Rampage did have personality, I will give it that. Blood will always be my favourite Build game though. :D
