By - | Views: 12,011

The Cave is a new adventure game from Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert, and Double Fine Productions, the award-winning studio behind Psychonauts and Brütal Legend. The developers have now stated the Linux release has been delayed for a week.

The game itself has been getting rather high praise from the interwebs, my twitter has been full of people loving the game, are you excited for this one?

QuoteThe Linux version will be released for anyone on Linux. It's delayed another week unfortunately, due to some tricky driver/GL bugs we still have to resolve. Sorry for the delay guys =/

It's nice to see them engage the community though on this Steam forum post.

Linux depots went up on Steam last night, so they're at least testing it at the moment. Fingers crossed it isn't too far away (it's also hard to tell from Justin's post whether he's talking about the week just gone, or an additional week's worth of delay).

We're going to be playing The Cave for Game Club later this month (and Ron should be joining us). It'll be pretty neat :D

finished it on the ps3 (sorry but was free a few days and as it did not pop up for linux when released) I enjoyed it a lot but to complete all puzzles/chars you end up with a few puzzles that appear in all sessions and they sort of get boring.  But all puzzles are pretty good and not to far fetched.  Liked it a lot.

Yeah, I'm kind of afraid that this delayed release (due to bugs) is going to put a serious dent in the launch numbers.  I feel that Linux frequently gets an unfair shake due to these kinds of shenanigans.  It's been stated on the Double Fine forums (in a reply by Ron, to members' questions) that one of the ways Valve determines these numbers is by adding up how much time Steam folks play each game within the first few weeks after launch.

What are the chances that gamers like Bumadar are going to then spend weeks, and dozens of hours, playing a game they've already beaten (and find boring, in parts)?

:(
